Lethbridge is located just two hours south of Calgary close to the Rocky Mountains and US border. It is a family oriented and culturally vibrant community with many amenities of a larger city. The Role


As a key member of the Division’s leadership team, the Director of Learning reports to the Associate Superintendent of Instructional Services. The Director of Learning will be a proven educational leader with demonstrated success in educational leadership, inspiring staff growth, implementing change, and developing a strong team. The Director of Learning participates in decision-making, policymaking, planning, and budgeting with specific focus on curriculum and instruction. The Director of Learning provides advice to Executive Council, the Board of Trustees, school personnel and parents, as requested.


Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:


  • Overseeing the learning commons operations in the Division.
  • Assessment as it relates all areas of curriculum and instruction
  • Supporting schools in relation to educational resource allocation and implementation.
  • Implementation and ongoing support for new curriculum
  • Oversee all aspects of provincially mandated post COVID learning programs, assessments and funding
  • Overseeing and supporting the lead teacher team in the areas of numeracy, literacy and English as an Additional Language
  • Oversees Locally Developed Courses for the Division.
  • Provision of professional learning for teachers related to instruction and new teacher induction.
  • Assists with the development of the Division’s Three-Year Plan and Annual Report.
  • Assists with supervision of Indigenous Education team.


Requirements


We are seeking an experienced educational leader with a record of successful administrative experience at the school or division level and demonstrated ability to create and maintain positive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess:


  • A strong record of advocating for excellence in learning, grounded in success for all learners;
  • Demonstrated belief in the success of all students and an understanding of how all schools can support success for all learners in the classroom;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to nurture a positive culture and team oriented environment;
  • Passion working alongside Indigenous communities and success implementing Indigenous Ways of Knowing into pedagogical practice;
  • A vision for a learning environment that promotes excellence and grows innovative thinkers;
  • Alberta teacher certification (or eligibility for Alberta teacher certification), Alberta Leadership Quality Standard certification (or eligibility for Leadership Quality standard certification) and a Master’s degree;
  • A history and reputation of being a trusted leader guided by strong ethics;
  • A sound understanding of curriculum and instruction that fosters optimal pedagogy and program development, budgeting and distribution of resources for new curriculum development;
  • A record of creating an environment of professional learning and innovation that empowers educators to enhance student learning for all

  • Proof of photo identification and documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name
  • A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services
  • Travel is required within the city, therefore a valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required
