About The Position


Reporting to the Manager of International Services, the International Student Support Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of a wide range of services and initiatives necessary for ensuring international student success and retention. This position act as a resource to and foster a vibrant campus environment for international students by providing guidance, support, mentorship, and advice.


The person in this position would assist international students with understanding Lethbridge College’s classroom and general student experience, learning abroad and the Canadian experience.


The person in this position will serve as a key point of contact and meet with inbound international students (in person and/or virtually) as well as outbound students or groups of students and will collaborate with academic areas and other service areas to ensure activities foster engagement and understanding.


Position Details


  • Regularly review and evaluate programming, resources and initiatives for improvements and enhancements
  • Research internal and external trends and best practices in international student support services and work with existing support service teams in enhancing and developing integrated services
  • Provide support in international student recruitment activities
  • Support the coordination and hosting of welcome and farewell meetings for inbound exchange students, information/recruitment sessions for outbound exchanges and pre-departure/re-entry session for outbound Lethbridge College students
  • Develop tools, resources, programs, and initiatives to ensure international students are accessing appropriate internal and external resources
  • Plan, develop, and implement pre-arrival and arrival support and in-transition programming for international students including pre-arrival orientations, transition and orientation webinars, and orientation activities for soft landing to campus services
  • Serve as a key point of contact and meet with inbound international students (in person or virtually, 1×1 or group settings) and outbound exchange students or groups of students to provide information and support for the purposes of student success
  • Plan, coordinate and participate in social, cultural and information-sharing opportunities to maximize inclusion and connections of international students to the wider college community


Required Qualifications


  • Has significant knowledge and lived, practical experience of working with international, ethnically, and culturally diverse communities
  • Exceptional client service skills with the ability to be tactful, discreet, and empathetic in verbal, written and non-verbal communications
  • Strong skill set in event planning and facilitation of diverse programming and services
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent oral and public speaking/presentation skills; able to effectively use technology to support presentations
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, networking, and relationship-building skills and proven ability to work with multiple areas and departments to support international student success
  • Bachelor’s Degree with two years experience in a related position


Preferred Qualifications


  • 1-2 years of international experience (living, studying and/or working outside of home country)
  • Comparative knowledge of international education systems and cultures from other countries (to Canada/Alberta)
  • RISIA designation or RCIC designation


Salary AUPE Class Level 10 Step 1 $28.85/hr
