Department Summary


The International Relations Office within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta serves as a hub for fostering global collaborations and promoting cross-cultural learning experiences. Committed to advancing the faculty's international initiatives, the office actively engages with partner institutions worldwide to develop agreements for faculty and student training. With a focus on enhancing the medical school's partnerships and programs, the International Relations Office plays a vital role in facilitating international opportunities and supporting the integration of global perspectives within the faculty. Through its dedicated efforts, the office contributes to the cultivation of a diverse and inclusive academic community that prepares students and faculty members for a globalized healthcare landscape.


Position Summary


Working closely with the Associate Dean, International Relations and the Director, International Relations this position will play a pivotal prole in supporting and advancing international initiatives within the faculty.


Duties


  • Compliance and Risk Management: The International Program Coordinator will ensure compliance with international regulations, policies, and ethical guidelines governing international collaborations. They will proactively identify and address potential risks, developing strategies and protocols to mitigate them, and ensuring that all programs and activities adhere to relevant legal and ethical standards.
  • Student Mobility: The successful candidate will coordinate student mobility programs, including facilitating inbound and outbound student exchanges, internships, and elective placements. They will work closely with academic advisors, administrative staff, and international partners to ensure seamless coordination of student experiences and provide support to students throughout their international academic journeys.
  • Program Enhancement: In collaboration with faculty members and international partners, the incumbent will contribute to the development and enhancement of programs aimed at fostering international collaboration and educational opportunities. They will provide expertise in designing curriculum and initiatives that align with the faculty's strategic goals, promoting cross-cultural learning experiences for students and faculty members.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: The incumbent will establish and maintain strong relationships with faculty members, staff, students, and external stakeholders involved in international programs. They will serve as a point of contact for inquiries related to international initiatives, fostering effective communication channels and providing guidance and support to stakeholders involved in international collaborations.
  • Partnership Development: The International Program Coordinator will work closely with partner institutes to establish and cultivate collaborative agreements for faculty and student training. They will actively seek opportunities to enhance the medical school's partnerships with academic institutions worldwide, identifying areas for collaboration and joint programs that promote academic excellence and global engagement.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Proven experience in program coordination or project management, preferably in an international or educational setting.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in data management and analysis, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare or medical education sector would be advantageous
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with international regulations and protocols related to academic collaborations and student exchanges.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., international relations, global health, public administration) is required. A master's degree would be an asset.


Preferred Qualification


  • Ability to speak a second language, such as Mandarin, is an asset
