Working for the Department/Faculty

University of Alberta Protective Services (UAPS) is an operational unit within Facilities and Operations . As the public safety agency for the University community, UAPS works to ensure the safety and security of student s , staff and the general public .

Position

Reporting to the Security Program Coordinator , the Security Agent is the “eyes and ears” of the University community by detecting and reporting incident s that may be disruptive to university operations, the safety and security of persons and property. Supported by a team of Peace Officers, the Security Agent prevents loss or damage within a building, facility or space utilized by the University of Alberta and/or those to whom the Univ ersity is contracted on either a temporary or permanent basis. This position provides a presence at various locations on campus, including high traffic areas and crime/disorder areas.

Duties

• Performs other related duties.
• Responds to access requests
• Takes notes, completes written reports and enters information into database as required .
• Performs first aid.
• Provides information and assistance to the university community and guests/visitors.
• Attends court and tribunals, provides testimony and conducts oneself in a professional manner.
• Participates in community crime prevention programs and education activities.
• Detect s and report s incidents that require a higher level of Peace Officer and police response.
• Proactively patrol s the North Campus of the University of Alberta
• Pro vide s coverage at the UAPS reception desk , high traffic areas, and crime /disorder areas
• Assists in building evacuations for life/safety incidents, and provides perimeter security and crowd control during emergency operations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Obtain clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector check
• Minimum high school education by Alberta Education standards (or equivalent )
• Must hold an Individual license under the Alberta Security Services and Investigators Act
• Experience with Microsoft Windows and Google applications
• Emergency or Standard First Aid Certification and Level C CPR with AED.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a post-secondary environment. Knowledge of the University of Alberta campus is an asset
• High level of proficiency with Google applications
• Completion of a security related diploma, or related certificates
• P rogressive security experience
