Position Title: Senior Payroll Specialist
Reports To: Manager, Payroll, Pension & Benefits
Department: Human Resources
Term: Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements: We are currently working remotely, and we will be moving to a hybrid model when our office renovation is complete (approximately September 2023), coming into the office a minimum of 2 days per week, every other week on designated days.
The Opportunity: Equitable Life is growing! We are looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist to join our Payroll, Pension & Benefits team.
The Senior Payroll Specialist will oversee the end-to-end multi-Province biweekly payroll processing together with the Payroll and HR Coordinator. The incumbent will ensure employees are compensated correctly and on time and answer complex payroll questions related to everything payroll related.
They will also work with the Manager, Payroll, Pension & Benefits with the staff pension plan administration and sessions, government remittances, payroll accounting, EQ orientation, job evaluation and year-end tax filing.

What you will be doing:

• Balance monthly payroll and salary accrual journal entries to accurately allocate payroll expenses to correct cost centres across the organization
• Work in conjunction with the Manager to administer the Benefit and Pension program including all plan changes and communication
• Work with the Manager to conduct job evaluation reviews for all positions utilizing the Hay system
• Benefit and Pension Plan Administration
• Balance CRA Accounts (CPP, EI, and Income Tax) and the EHT, WSIB, CNESST, etc. accounts
• Absence Management administrative support
• Oversee the biweekly processing of all payroll transactions related to employee’s life cycle experience

What you will bring:

• High level of integrity with a strong sense of confidentiality and privacy
• Ability to handle employee interactions and presentations over the phone, Microsoft Teams and in person
• Accounting knowledge and an acute attention to detail
• NPI designation or in progress towards designation is an asset
• Previous experience with HRIS/Payroll systems
• Advanced Microsoft office skills, specifically with Microsoft Excel
• Experience working with a national payroll
• Provincial Employment Standards knowledge
• 4+ years as a senior payroll specialist preferably in the financial services industry
• Multi-tasking and sound time management skills
