Director of HR & Operations at BGC Thompson
BGC Thompson is a community, grassroots organization linked with the national movement of BGC Canada, offering recreational, nutritional, educational, and vocational programming to children and youth at risk.
We are seeking a Director of HR & Operations to join our team in Thompson, Manitoba. Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will have overall operational responsibility for our staff, programs, and the execution of BGCT’s mission, vision, and values. This role is pivotal in leading our Club’s team in the areas of human resources, administration, and communications.
Responsibilities (What your day will look like):
General Administration
- Oversee the day-to-day, efficient and effective functioning of BGCT’s facilities and administration.
- Ensure the Club facilities are appropriately managed.
- Provide regular reports to various bodies (BGC Canada, funders, Executive Director etc.).
- Ensure all legal obligations of the Club are met, and that legal opinion is sought where required, alongside the Executive Director.
Leadership & Management
- Continue to support work towards a professional development culture through ongoing staff training and individual development plans.
- Be present and accessible to all employees - recognize performance and motivate staff.
- Develop and support operational plans with Program Directors/Staff in their areas of responsibility.
- Lead, coach, develop, and retain the BGCT staffing team.
- Design, support, and maintain an organizational design that ensures the BGCT's strategic and operational plans are being met.
Human Resource Management
- Ensure staff training and development needs are met.
- Ensure job performance evaluations are conducted annually and evaluate the performance of key staff members.
- Maintain a climate and culture which attracts, retains and motivates top-quality employees.
- Ensure the establishment and implementation of human resource practices and policies which are consistent with BGCT’s values and which observe applicable laws.
- Identify staffing needs and ensure the appropriate recruitment, appointment and orientation of all staff and volunteers.
- Lead regular staff work planning within the context of the strategic and annual goals/programming strategy approved by the Board.
Communications, Partnerships and Community Connections:
- Ensure an effective communications/public relations program and represent the organization internally and externally in a way that advances the organization’s objectives.
- Ensure the planning, development and implementation of an effective communications program that encompasses public education and public engagement activities.
- Identify, establish and maintain links with the organization’s internal constituency, including staff, volunteers, contributors, program partners and the target population served by BGCT.
What you need to succeed:
- At least three years of progressively responsible management and leadership experience in a not-for-profit organization.
- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff and manage and develop high-performance teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and services.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Recreation, Community Development, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or equivalent education in a related field.
Compensation/Incentives
- Hour Wage: $30 - $34/hour paid bi-weekly; 75 hours biweekly.
