Position Overview:
Our client is a recognized leader in Real Estate with over a billion in assets under management and in development value. They are currently looking for a Senior Manager or Director of Finance – Construction & Development, a new role, to join their growing team.
The Senior Manager or Director of Finance will have a key leadership role in overseeing the financial operations and strategic planning related to construction and development projects. This is an attractive opportunity to join a motivated and growing real estate business and be able to build a new department within it. This includes the chance to build the new processes, systems and the team. The ideal candidate requires a strong financial acumen, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, in-depth knowledge of construction and real development, and excellent leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess financial risks associated with construction and development projects.
- Build financing strategies for construction and development projects, including debt and equity options.
- Spearhead and assume leadership of the newly formed Construction and Development Finance Department. Showing the ability to build and lead the finance team and provide guidance, mentoring, and support to team members.
- Exercise diligent oversight and supervision of the seamless implementation of the new system.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, legal, and operations, to align financial goals with project objectives.
- Evaluate investment opportunities, perform due diligence, and provide financial recommendations on project feasibility.
- Provide accurate and timely financial reports, including cost tracking (i.e. identify cost overruns and solutions), variance analysis, and profitability assessments.
- Coordinate with lenders, investors, and financial institutions to secure funding for projects.
- Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting to support project planning and decision-making processes.
- Partner with project managers and stakeholders to establish project budgets and financial targets.
- Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures for construction and development projects.
Qualifications:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound financial decisions.
- Strong knowledge of construction and development processes, including project budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis.
- CPA designation is required with at least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the high-rise construction or real estate development industry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Proficiency in financial modelling, forecasting, and data analysis tools.
Please note that at present, legal eligibility to work in Canada is a prerequisite for this role.
