Your role
Reporting to the CFO and EVP, English Services, the Executive Director Finance & Strategy - English Services is responsible for the overall accounting, financial and strategic activities of CBC in support of the mission and objectives of the organization. In addition, this role will also oversee the Business & Rights department, which is accountable for leveraging their expertise to lead content rights and strategically guide the allocation of funding throughout the stages of development production. This encompassess both in-house programming and external productions. The Executive Director will continuously look for ways to better support the business, and collaborate with other leaders to drive continuous improvement in the function. The role also has significant involvement in monitoring the achievement of the Corporation’s strategic objectives and often represents Finance in large-scale projects and initiatives.
This is a senior leadership role requiring significant experience, tact, judgment and diplomacy to allocate and manage financial resources across CBC. The successful candidate will work closely with the CFO, EVP English Services, CEO, and the other senior executives. You will be part of a team of passionate professionals that are dedicated to leveraging talent, while nurturing a culture of excellence, respect, engagement and inclusivity. You will often represent and support the CFO, and you will lead and develop a team of professional staff in locations across the country. The role will also represent the Corporation in regular interaction with the Government and other key external stakeholders including presentations to the Board of Directors.
In addition to the above, this role is expected to make a significant contribution to the ongoing evolution and modernization of Finance, and the development and execution of financial strategy.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, prioritize and manage CBC’s portfolio of strategic initiatives on an ongoing basis in collaboration with various branches of the organization and in liaison with Corporate and Radio-Canada.
  • Direct the production of reports and analysis required by CBC Senior Management, SET or the Board of Directors in coordination with Corporate and Radio-Canada.
  • Accountable for analyzing financial and performance data and propose solutions to improve profitability.
  • Responsible for the allocation of financial resources and other sources of capital within the business unit.
  • Responsible for the identification of specific standard (unit) costs for business unit activities and the determination of the chargeback to the organization’s programs.
  • Provide leadership to the CBC Finance, Business & Rights and Strategic planning teams.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the CBC’s financial culture through the promotion of sound financial and business practices; provide advice to managers at all levels to ensure sound decision making.
  • Responsible for providing input into the Finance function’s performance management process and supporting the business unit’s performance management process. This includes the development of business unit specific performance metrics and the monitoring of those metrics to assess the relative ‘health’ of the various programs.
  • Contribute to the communication of action plans and resulting strategic initiatives to various stakeholders.
  • Accountable for supporting the business unit’s strategy formulation process from a financial perspective. This includes support for the articulation of strategic objectives, development of strategic initiatives, and prioritization and development of resource requirements.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving the business unit’s financial results including any required adjustments, in support of the organization’s closing process.

We Are Looking For a Candidate With The Following
  • Established experience leading teams across different locations.
  • Strategic with the ability to develop and in-depth understanding of business, conceptualize and implement strategies.
  • At least fifteen years of management experience, the majority in a large, complex, multi-location enterprise. Experience in Crown Corps, or similarly funded entities is desirable.
  • Ability and skills to make recommendations and provide analytical insight and interpretation of complex financial data to senior management in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong analytical and complex problem solving skills.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) would be considered an asset.
  • Prior experience working with and optimizing the value of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
  • Willingness to travel as required, mostly to Ottawa and Montreal.
  • A professional accounting designation such as CPA (CA, CMA, CGA).
  • Broad experience with complex management reporting structures, internal reporting requirements, and the development of financial policy and processes.
  • Comfort preparing and presenting to Boards of Directors and external stakeholders.
