We are looking for a Director, Accounting to join our Finance team and be responsible for accounting, reporting and internal controls of the company. This role will be reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and work at our Toronto Campus. Additional travel to other locations may be required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supporting the VP, Finance and other executives with other tasks
• Responsible for all tax filings and remittances (corporate tax, HST, etc)
• Responsible for ensuring that month ends and year ends are closed timely and accurately.
• Managing and coordinating the annual audit.
• Assisting in planning, forecasting and analysis that leads to actionable decisions.
• Review and approval of expenditures and ensuring this is within budget.
• Implementing Policies and Procedures and ensuring manuals are created and maintained.
• Responsible for the coaching, mentoring and hiring.
• Present Financial statements results and variance analysis on monthly and quarterly basis to management.
• Improving and maintaining the internal control process of Hanson and related entities.
• Staying current with accounting, reporting, and taxation related regulations; practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements and industry trends;
• Responsible for functions including but not limited to: accounting, reporting, expenses management and internal controls, finance, refunds, commissions, payroll, for Hanson and related entities.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

• Superior oral and written communication skills and the ability to articulate a concise story around business drivers, financial data, and potential implications on future results coupled with actionable recommendations
• Expertise in Excel, Power Point, Quickbooks or other financial ERP.
• Ability to shift between looking at the details and looking at the bigger picture
• Other skills considered an asset includes experience with Sage, QuickBooks, Microsoft Power BI
• Post-secondary degree in Business specializing in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent field.
• Knowledge of software implementation will be great to have.
• Commitment to continuous process improvement and ability to challenge the status quo to make things better
• 5-10 years of experience working in finance / accounting preferably at the Director or Controller level.
• Active CPA, CA, CGA or CMA licence is required
• High degree of integrity and reliability.
• Demonstrated attention to detail / accuracy, ability to effectively multi-task, and ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in an environment of shifting priorities
• Extremely proactive with the ability to handle new situations as they arise
• Highly collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as a member of a larger team, and the ability to influence others.
• Strong analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
