Job Description
The Director of Finance and Infrastructure (Director) will join our Senior Leadership and Central Administrations teams. In consultation with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director will effectively collaborate between the agency’s operating Board of Directors as well as Program Managers regarding financial matters, budgeting recommendations agency initiatives and strategic planning outcomes. The Director ensures the agency meets multiple legislative requirements, as well as standards outlined by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) agency financial and accounting policies and sector specific standards. The Director holds a high degree of responsibility within all budgeting, reporting, investing and risk management for agency’s financial planning needs. The Director provides direction and oversight to the finance, operations and information systems teams with the Central Administration team.


Under the supervision of the CEO key accountabilities include:


  • Responsible for reporting quarterly financial and statistical reports for MCSS and monthly financial reports for the Board, CEO and Program Managers
  • Responsible for providing direction and oversight to the finance, operations and information systems staff through regular discussion, coaching, mentoring, work planning, performance appraisal, supporting goal attainment and achieving work plan outcomes.
  • Act as a strategic business partner to the Leadership team and advise the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Board of Directors as requested, explaining Financial information in an accurate and understandable fashion.
  • Responsible for the financial reporting and internal control systems of agency within established parameters while being open to continuous quality improvement.
  • Establish financial strategic goals by synthesizing relevant information: legislative obligations, sector trends, other financial considerations of the agency including; operational objectives, service mandates and strategic goals to inform the financial work plan.
  • Act as a signatory on bank accounts and cheques as per agency policies.
  • Responsible for the creation and oversight of all program budgets in collaboration with the Program Manager and CEO.


Education, Training and Experience:


  • Strong working knowledge of financial cycles, reporting requirements and Quickbooks.
  • 5+ years of combined experience in a variety of finance related areas: Accounting, Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP) and Month end reporting.
  • Compassionate and responsible supporter of people, their families, and community partners.
  • Advanced computer proficiency and excellent communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, well organized with an excellent ability to prioritize, multi-task and take initiative.
  • Commitment to maximize resources and improve people’s quality of life.
  • Experience working in developmental sector or non-for-profit is considered an asset.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing required.
  • Ability to maintain positive and professional relationships with parents and other stakeholders.
  • A valid driver’s license and insurance, access to a reliable vehicle and ability to drive in various weather conditions.
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related field or equivalent experience and knowledge.
