Job Description
Peggy is reenvisioning the art market by establishing Art 2.0. Our mission at Peggy is to support the livelihoods of artists. Why? Because artists are the ultimate observers of society with messages to share that create change. What does this mission look like in the world? A world with art in every home. A world where liquidity in the art market is accessible to middle-market collectors. A world where collectors support artists and their observations of the world, the messages they have to share, and the change they create. Peggy creates new opportunities within the art market by making investment-grade art accessible, filling the untapped gap of resale activity in the middle market and shifting benefits to artists by enabling resale royalties.
Being on the frontier takes visionary thinking, a flexible mindset and the ability to thrive in unchartered land. We value security, storytelling, straightforwardness and forward-thinking. Peggy is the place for you if you’re seeking personal and professional growth and to establish a new way of doing business in the art market.
As a seed-stage startup, Peggy does not offer a rigid corporate structure. If you crave the structure, clarity and predictability of traditional corporate environments, Peggy might not be a place where you’ll thrive. We operate in an ambiguous environment by being curious, placing bets, shipping fast and learning from the outcomes. We are light on processes at Peggy, instead favouring relationships of high trust achieved through high impact. At our stage, exceptional competencies centre around leading, owning and prioritizing work that achieves business strategies.
Motivations that excel at Peggy
  • Caring deeply about what you do and about establishing Art 2.0
  • Being a visionary, experimenting and moving quickly
  • Being resilient and resourceful in the face of ambiguity and thriving on (rather than enduring) change
  • Embracing disagreements and committing to moving forward despite a difference in opinion
Mission:
As the Director of Community Growth and Partnerships, your mission is to build and nurture the Peggy brand, develop relationships and partnerships, and drive user growth on the collector side of the marketplace. You will grow brand awareness on the demand side of the marketplace (collectors), resulting in revenue-driving engagement and liquidity.
Responsibilities:
  • Act as a brand ambassador, representing Peggy at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to build awareness and establish valuable connections.
  • Build relationships with relevant groups to establish Peggy as the go-to platform for investment-grade contemporary art.
  • Monitor key metrics and analytics to measure the effectiveness of community growth initiatives and make data-informed recommendations for optimizing strategies and improving user acquisition and retention.
  • Identify and explore partnership opportunities with art institutions, art fairs, industry influencers, and other relevant organizations to amplify Peggy's brand presence and reach.
  • Develop and deliver strategies to attract, engage, and retain collector users, driving user growth and expanding the Peggy community.
  • Aim the marketing team to develop and implement targeted campaigns, content, and initiatives to attract and engage collector users.
About You
  • Proven experience in a senior-level community growth, partnerships, or business development role, preferably in the art or creative industries.
  • Nice to have: experience in an art-adjacent industry, such as music, fashion, luxury, collectables, or the like
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to tell a compelling story that resonates with various audiences.
  • Strong hustle factor and ability to think creatively, takes initiative and delivers tangible results.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with the contemporary art market, trends, and dynamics, demonstrating a passion for art and the ability to understand collector needs and preferences.
  • Ability to work independently, manage projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media platforms, and community engagement strategies.
  • Charismatic and magnetic personality with a natural ability to build relationships and inspire others.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience managing a team and driving results through collaboration and mentorship.
  • Deep existing network and relationships with collector (or art-adjacent “would-be collector”) audiences.
  • Strategic mindset with a data-driven approach, capable of analyzing metrics and making informed decisions to optimize growth strategies.
  • Track record of successfully developing and executing community growth strategies and initiatives, resulting in user acquisition and engagement.
Outcomes
Business cases and initiatives
  • Launch multiple user acquisition initiatives based on your business cases.
  • Develop business cases for various user acquisition initiatives, such as paid partnerships, IRL events, and ads, including assumption-based financial models.
Scaling and optimization
  • Progress from acquiring 100 users per day to 1,000, and eventually 10,000, establishing Peggy as a household name.
  • Scale successful initiatives while discontinuing ineffective ones through iteration.
Benefits
  • Top-tier health benefits (drug, dental, vision, life insurance, etc)
  • Competitive salary and stock options
  • Digital-first, fully remote environment
  • 5 weeks vacation (which includes 2 weeks of company downtime during the holiday season)
You will report directly to Peggy's CEO and be the leader of user acquisition. You will work closely with other marketing team members who are responsible for user engagement (deeper in the funnel), data, analyses, paid advertising, copywriting, and content creation.
Working at Peggy
  • Peggy is based in Canada
  • Remote first/remote only
  • Eastern Time preferred for this role
