Position Summary
Thales is looking for a Digital Discipline Team Lead to be responsible for managing a team of different disciplines including Network, Cybersecurity, DevSecOps, AI, Cloud, UX design/Human Factor and Data Science. Aiming at the excellence of the practices and skills of the team, the Lead is in charge of providing support to various projects from innovation to system design and in-service support projects. They act as a privileged point of contact on complex subjects involving Digital disciplines. The Digital Discipline Team Lead will be part of the Engineering department located in Ottawa, Canada and will rely on experts/Heads of Discipline of the different disciplines within Thales Group to support locally the discipline development.
Essential Functions / Key Areas Of Responsibility
The Digital Discipline Team Lead’s primary responsibilities are to:

• Recruit future talent and manages career plans / employee mobility in a short/medium/long term vision
• Animate the discipline by bringing expertise and relying on recognized referents within Thales
• Capitalize and share skills in an environment of employee mobility
• Liaise with the Innovation Team to forecast Digital orientations of the business
• Support the bid and projects by estimating costs, monitoring the actuals and then forecasting costs against the baseline budget
• Liaise with Thales Group Digital Champions to build a network of expertise that can be leveraged in bids and projects
• Ensure business continuity
• Build the Strategic Workforce planning

People Management

• Provides oversight and direction to a team of employees within the department in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
• Coaches, mentors, and develops staff, including overseeing new employees onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.
• Leads employees to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, continuous improvement, and goal accomplishment.
• Fosters a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for cohesiveness, support, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed.
• Works with Human Resources staff to recruit, interview, select, hire, and employ an appropriate number of employees.

Minimum Requirements: Skills, Experience, Education, Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, Language

• Ability to develop and agree project budgets by estimating costs, managing actual and forecast costs against the baseline budget and controlling costs by accurately analysing and managing variances.
• Ability to implement Lean or Agile principles and methods in engineering teams, to identify, estimate and prioritise Customer Value, grow knowledge incrementally through test & learn approaches and track its delivery.
• Ability to demonstrate self-awareness, to invest in the development of others and to encourage a culture of feedback.
• Experience: 7+ years experience in a Software/Systems engineering environment and in managing high performing teams
• Certifications: P.Eng. or CET or eligible to obtain P.Eng or CET.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent education with relevant experience.
• Recognized for ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and externally with customers.
• Strong business acumen and ability to identify and address issues within a complex business environment.
• Ability to orient solutions and estimations based on capitalized knowledge of the organisation.
• Technical/Specialized Knowledge: at least 5 years of professional experience in two or more disciplines among Network, Cybersecurity, DevOps, AI, Cloud, UX design/Human Factor and data science.
• Excellent English communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills required to succeed on multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: In addition to the minimum professional experience specified above, experience in any of the following areas would be considered an asset: Experience in defence

Experience in managing hardware and software IT Environments
Experience in Virtual Computing

• Language: French fluency would be an asset
• Technical/Specialized Knowledge: Experience with naval, land C4ISR, autonomous systems would be an asset. Experience with IT Systems and Networks

Physical Demands

• Minimal lifting of test and electronic equipment, connecting equipment in a lab environment or job site (including onboard vehicle or vessel).
