Position Available:Digital Communications Officer

Position Status:Full-time permanent, non-union

Reports to: Director, Communications and Public Affairs

Department: Communications and Public Affairs

Location: 5310 Explorer Drive, Mississauga

(Hybrid model – 2 days per week in office)

Position Summary:

We are looking for a creative, collaborative and motivated person to join Ornge Communications and Public Affairs. Working both independently and as a part of a small but impactful team, the successful candidate will tell the story of Ornge through digital media, plan and execute a content strategy, and support communications activities across the organization. This is an excellent opportunity for an energetic communications professional who would find satisfaction in contributing to multiple areas of an organization with a life saving mission.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Seek out opportunities to educate stakeholders about our service and showcase Ornge’s thought leadership and expertise.
• Establish metrics and measurement to evaluate the effectiveness of communications and content programs and projects.
• Support other communications activities as needed.
• Creative Services: Provide creative services, including elements of graphic design, photography and videography, to support internal departments with their communication needs for a variety of audiences.
• Occasional travel to Ornge bases required.
• Digital Media: Plan, oversee and develop content for Ornge digital channels, including Ornge.ca and intranet. Design, write, review and edit communications materials including e-newsletters, web stories, video content – ensuring accurate, high quality writing and visuals.
• Social Media: Assume day-to-day responsibility for Ornge’s social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and others. Ensure these platforms are updated regularly with relevant and engaging multimedia content with the aim of extending reach, engagement and impact. Respond to inquiries in a professional and timely fashion. Maintain a high quality editorial calendar and produce associated content.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

• Post-secondary degree/diploma in a communications-related field (digital communications, journalism, public relations, etc.) 2 to 4 years relevant work experience in communications or a related field with a focus on digital communications.

Technical:

• Foundational knowledge of web design principles, basic HTML, best practices, and content management platforms.
• An eye for design – ability to oversee content creation with strong graphics and imagery.
• High level of proficiency with design/photo and video applications such as the Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. Experience working with analytical tools such as Google Analytics. Google Ads experience an asset.

Interpersonal:

• Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude a must. Willingness to pitch in where needed.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle competing priorities and projects.
• Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams in a highly collaborative environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Exceptional attention to detail.
• Experience in health care and/or aviation communications considered an asset.
• A self-starter with a proven work ethic, a track record of meeting tight deadlines, and the ability to generate ideas and take them to completion.
• Sensitivity when communicating with stakeholder groups, including patients and their families.
