Job Summary


The Office of the Auditor General undertakes independent, objective financial, compliance and performance audits of City departments, local Boards of the City, municipally-controlled corporations, grant recipients and any other agencies, boards, commissions and corporations as City Council may create or identify, to add value to the City and improve the City’s programs/services. Audits are professionally conducted to assist Council by bringing a systematic, unbiased approach designed to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes. The Office of the Auditor General also administers the Fraud and Waste Hotline and co-ordinates fraud investigation activities with City Programs or City Agencies, Boards and Commissions at the Office’s discretion.


You are responsible for providing administrative support as well as financial support and communications to the Office of the Auditor General. You will be dealing with sensitive and confidential materials on a day-to-day basis.


You are responsible for key administrative activities and support for office initiatives and events. You serve as a point of contact for city staff, residents, senior external contacts and members of City Council. Duties and responsibilities also include the overall management and coordination of the Office’s administrative and financial processes. You are also responsible for special projects that support the Auditor General.


Education And Experience


3-year university degree in Business Administration, Communication or related field


Minimum of 3 years of experience in the areas of administration, public relations, communications, or related field


KNOWLEDGE


  • Effective communication strategies and techniques using traditional and web-based channels
  • Principles and practices of office management, including budget tracking
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
  • Trends in communications industry and approaches
  • Computer applications, including Microsoft Office, SAP, Electronic Records Management System, Adobe InDesign suite, AbleDocs,
  • The City of Ottawa’s departments and internal operational and administrative procedures and relevant contacts
  • General knowledge of City of Ottawa’s branch policies, practices, functions, systems, and procedures is an asset
  • Relevant dispositions of regulations and legislation pertaining to the Office
  • Office goals, objectives, policies and procedures
  • General knowledge of MFIPPA regulations
