BUILDING A WORLD CLASS TEAM STARTS WITH YOU

At the heart of CSA Group is a vision: making the world a better, safer, more sustainable place. It's been part of our mission for nearly one hundred years: from the first engineering standard for railway bridges developed in 1919, to more than 3,500 standards, codes & related products today.

Headquartered in Canada, with a global footprint of more than 30 labs and offices across Europe, Asia and North America, CSA Group tests, inspects and certifies a wide range of products - from every day househould items to leading edge technology-to meet exacting requirements for safety, performance and environmental impact.

Our employees take pride in making a difference in people's lives through the work that we do. We're looking for people like you to help make it happen.

Job Summary

CSA Group has an opportunity for a Project Manager, Standards Development - Oil & Gas. In this challenging and rewarding role, you will be responsible for facilitating the development of standards for the Petroleum and Natural Gas sector, working with volunteer members including technical experts and leaders from industry, academia, and government.

This dynamic role requires a sound understanding of the various processes and procedures of CSA Group, many of which are mandated under accreditation by the Standards Council of Canada. A key element of the Project Manager role is to ensure that these processes and procedures are adhered to, and that project timelines are achieved within the defined budget.

The role emphasizes management, leadership, and soft skills. It requires a capacity to engage and manage a diverse stakeholder community, as well as ability to manage conflict. It is the ultimate form of working with and achieving results through others and influencing without authority.

Responsibilities

As a Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of standards development activities and overseeing all aspects of assigned projects. This includes:

  • Establishing and actively managing project scope of work, processes, schedules, resource requirements (e.g., funding, personnel), costs, quality, and risk.
  • Liaising with internal and external parties including funders, members, management, editorial and production to deliver projects and to develop new business opportunities.
  • Day-to-day management of committee activities, including preparing and maintaining records (e.g., meeting agendas, minutes), managing the development of technical content, and working with members to prepare high quality documents.
  • Collaborating with committee leadership (Chairs and Vice-Chairs) to manage committee operations and membership, including member recruitment, ensuing committee balance, and addressing performance.
  • Working with the committees and applying sector knowledge to identify potential new business opportunities (e.g., new standards requirements, research, training and education programs).
  • Facilitating development of standards by CSA Group volunteer committee members, including convening in-person and virtual meetings.
  • Developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Technical degree (CET, BSc or B.Eng).
  • Experience and knowledge of the standards industry, government policy, and/or oil and gas sector landscape.
  • Designation as a Project Management Professional, or equivalent designation/experience, would be an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including 3-5 years of experience in standards development, stakeholder engagement, and/or project management.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Bilingualism would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication, including delivering presentations and writing technical documents, proposals, and business plans.
  • Excellent organization, planning skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills (word processing, presentation software, spreadsheets, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience managing the activities of others.
  • Excellent people skills: managing relationships, facilitating, and networking with people at all levels with divergent interests and backgrounds.
  • High degree of self-motivation, initiative, resilience, and adaptability.
  • Research and analytical skills.
