Project Coordinator [Facilities]

Location: 1076 Ellesmere Road - Facilities Management

Status: Permanent Full-Time


Job Summary:

Under the direction of the designated supervisor, is responsible for the effective coordination of major construction, renovation and rehabilitation of library facility projects.


Duties:

  • Secures approvals from various regulating and government agencies and inspects and monitors work in progress by contractors, ensuring that all work executed is in accordance with the approved project drawings and specifications
  • Monitors all construction projects as they relate to Health and Safety regulations and maintains records on infractions and accidents in the event of litigation
  • Prepares detailed reports and monitors schedules and graphs, and maintains accurate records of development and budgets on all assigned projects, initiates correction of deficiencies and warranty items
  • Coordinates a team of contractors and consultants to effectively implement construction projects, major renovations, rehabilitation and alterations to library facilities in accordance with the Library’s policies and standards
  • Prepares pre-qualification specifications and directs the consultants in the preparation of specifications and tender documents; edits reports and project documents for approved projects
  • Maintains effective working relations with contractors, consultants, library public service staff, area municipalities, government bodies and facility operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Provides advice, guidance and technical assistance in the development of construction and renovation programs
  • Assists in the resolution of delay claims and disputes that may arise through the execution of construction activities in the event of disputes in litigation
  • Assists in the preparation of material for representation at Court, Discovery and/or Judicial Hearings
  • Monitors the conditions of constructed assets for repairs and rehabilitation and conducts research on new materials, construction techniques, and procedures
  • Coordinates all documentation, including all correspondence from architects, engineers, building inspectors, contractors and sub-contractors



Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with institutional facility “State of Good Repair” audits and life-cycle costing related to major facility components
  • Understanding of cost accounting, facility construction cost estimating and value engineering
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience in the application of engineering and architectural principles, practices and standards
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience and demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of institutional facility construction and project management
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in the design and construction of institutional facilities with particular emphasis on construction related to relevant legislation, codes and practices including the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • A valid Ontario Driver's Licence Class “G”, and use of a personal vehicle for site visits preferred
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of current project software



Salary: $88,015.20 per annum (2023 Rates)
