What You’ll Do

It’s safe to say, there’s no shortage of variety in what we do. Here are some key accountabilities of the role:

• Responsible for setting team talent plan spanning 6 to 12 months to assess and grow team members; through talent assessment, IDPs, mid and year end reviews and action plans
• Assists in ensuring the implementation of the payroll business continuity plan in the event of a major business disruption and/or disaster; partners with the Manager of Payroll to ensure controls meet and/or exceed all SLA’s, audit, legal and compliance requirements, and established test protocols.
• Mentors team members to elevate and build their forecasting and analysis knowledge, and business acumen; key resource to answer questions and discuss best practices.
• Manages the year-end payroll processes through the production of associate T4’s and other statutory year-end reporting, as required by law and to support compliance.
• Manages the resolution of issues related to the interfaces between HR and Payroll systems; provides ongoing mitigation of payroll issues and payroll business needs.
• This position is accountable for managing the day-to-day operational processes to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of payroll services to all TJX Canada Associates.
• Assists in the development and production of effective payroll reporting and metrics to ensure highest quality operations.
• Maintains effective partnerships with other areas of the business to ensure mutual needs are met, issues are resolved, changes are deployed in a timely fashion and all Payroll processes and Associate events are run effectively

What You’ll Need

To begin your career with us, we require the following:

• Good people management skills including coaching, providing advice and guidance to Associates to resolve issues/problems; evaluating performance and providing feedback to team members; participate in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of staff
• Familiarity with generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP).
• Strong issue management skills including organizational skills, interviewing skills, interpersonal skills, conflict management; and information gathering.
• Solid understanding of ERP systems.
• Excellent computer skills (spreadsheet and word processing) and knowledge of time and attendance systems (i.e. Kronos).
• Current knowledge of federal and provincial legislation as it relates to payroll (taxation, employment standards etc.), the ability to interpret and apply knowledge to the daily operations, and solid knowledge of internal and external audit requirements.
• Professional Payroll designation (i.e. PLP, PCP).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills including negotiation, interviewing, information gathering, and active listening skills; ability to develop highly effective working relationships by building credibility, and rapport with internal and external networks.
• A minimum 8 years of progressive payroll experience; minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory or management-level role.
• Advanced problem-solving skills including identification of issues, analysis of information; emergency problem solving (i.e. ‘crisis’ management); providing support to staff in developing solutions to accounting problems.
