SUMMARY: The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be the first point of contact for employees, supervisors, managers and outside parties for all payroll and payroll compliance related matters. This position reports into the Controller, and also includes benefits and other HR support to the VP – Human Resources. Once the training period is complete, this role will have the ability to work remotely 1 day a week, with 4 days working in-office.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monthly, year-end and ad-hoc payroll related compliance and reporting including T4’s and ROE’s
- Payroll related account reconciliations and journal entries including floater days, vacation accrual etc.
- Communicate with managers and employees regarding any payroll related inquiries
- Uploading RRSP contribution data to provider
- Manage and update the payroll database to ensure all employee data is secure and accurate
- Benefits administration and performance management/review administration support
- Improved vacation entitlement AND vacation accrual reporting
- Support year-end audit related activities
- Other general accounting duties and special projects as assigned including periodic transactional level support of the AP and AR functions (to cover vacation or illness)
- Continuous improvement of the payroll function including:
- Responsible for accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for 265 employees (including 180 hourly employees) and maintenance of digital payroll and employee records
- Management / Control of variable compensation (volume commission / new customer incentive)
- Participation in the Digital Transformation / ERP project as a key steering committee member/implementation partner for Payroll/HR
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Strong computer literacy; must be proficient with MS Office Excel, Word and MS Teams as well as computerized payroll. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is an asset.
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification from the Canadian Payroll Association or in active pursuit of is required.
- Completion or active pursuit of the CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) designation is desirable.
- Effective communication both written and oral is required.
- Must have experience processing payroll through ADP WorkForce Now.
- A minimum of 5 years of applicable payroll & benefits experience, preferably with experience in an hourly / manufacturing environment.
