MILLER WASTE SYSTEMS – Payroll Coordinator
Title: Payroll Coordinator
Location:Miller Waste Systems Inc. – Markham Corporate
Reporting to: HRIS/Payroll Manager
Hours:Monday – Friday (8:00am to 5:00pm)

Miller Waste Systems Inc. has been in operation since 1961. Miller is a leader in waste management and diversion, providing governments and industries with a wide range of services in the provinces of Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Manitoba. Miller has over 50 years’ experience in the waste management sector, and currently operates out of more than 30 locations.
Miller Waste Systems is looking for aPayroll Specialistwith 3+ years of experience.Reporting to the HRIS/Payroll Manager and is responsible for the payroll functions for the Company. Accurately processing Canadian payrolls in multiple provinces with both salaried and hourly employees.
Responsibilities:
In the position of Payroll Specialist, your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Participate in required meetings providing input and recommendations.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll reporting.
- Reconcile payroll totals and ensure all deductions are made as scheduled.
- Review all payroll record to ensure that proper payroll procedures are observed for terminated employees.
- Assist with Payroll audits.
- Process and administer bi-weekly & salaried payroll for employees across multiple provinces.
- Generates reports, reconciles payroll and related accounts, prepares all government and other remittances and filings (i.e., federal/provincial income tax withholdings, EHT and WCB remittances)
- Compile payroll data such as garnishments, vacation time, benefits and other appropriate deductions.
- Calculates and processes new hires, changes and payments, ensuring compliance with current government legislation.
- Ensure accurate processing of sick payout and vacation payouts.
- Answers inquiries from employees, internal and governmental agencies regarding payroll related questions and requests
- Other payroll related duties, as required
- Prepares T4s, T4As, ROEs, T2200s and related payroll items
- Develop and maintain an accurate payroll records management system.
- Ensure adherence to all procedures and policies.
- Stay current with payroll regulations, standards and work methods.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong mathematical skills.
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience performing comprehensive payroll and benefits administration
- Ability to work well under pressure and able to plan, prioritize, organize work to meet deadlines
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- Formal payroll specific training and/or significant Canadian payroll experience
- Strong work ethics and positive team attitude
- CPA Certification
- Able to maintain confidential information.
- Solid knowledge of legislation, rules and regulations affecting payroll including taxation, employment standards, Worker’s Compensation, Employment Insurance, garnishments and benefits
- Must be able to comprehend HRIS system and other system programs.
- Proven people skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Clear written and verbal communications.
- Creative, forward thinker.
- Must be proficient in MS Office programs, especially Excel
- Recent experience with ADP and/or Ceridian payroll software. Dayforce experience preferred!
- Organize and write procedures in a logical/methodical manner.
- Excellent attention to detail.
