The role…
- Liaise closely with Finance department to ensure accurate costing of payroll; provide payroll information when required for the filing of corporate tax returns, accounting for deferred development projects and liaises with Finance on taxation issues.
- Highly experienced with Year End Processing, preparation of year end employee tax slips or forms, and submitting government filings to meet deadlines. Responsible for verifying and reconciling all payroll data, preparing and distributing T4 slips, filing annual returns with the CRA, reporting and remitting payroll taxes, preparing and filing T4A slips, reconciling payroll accounts, ensuring compliance with employment and payroll legislation, and setting up the payroll system for the new year.
- Administer bonus incentive process and approvals on a bi-weekly and annual basis.
- Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations, and merit increases.
- Validation of timecards for errors and accuracy prior to payroll processing, performed on a weekly basis.
- Process Terminations and generate Records of Employment (ROE); experience with ROE Web for amendments.
- Processing garnishments and FRO payments.
- Responsible for the remittance of various deductions; reconcile payroll accounts with the General Ledger; ensure accurate expense and liability accounts are processed.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely bi-weekly processing of payroll for hourly and salary employees for the province of Ontario.
- Experience with Expatriates, working in conjunction with Tax consultant for processing of Taxable benefits, housing allowance, tax withholdings, salary adjustments, etc.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment working with multiple schedules and shift rotations in a continuous operation environment.
- Address or respond to inquiries from managers, employees and finance department regarding payroll and expenses.
- Responsible for the maintenance of payroll records for internal and external requirements.
- Responsible for identifying legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting payroll functions.
- Responsible for annual EHT remittances and PEIR reports, CPP, EI and Tax Discrepancies reports.
- Responsible for payroll audits for internal and external auditors.
- Understanding and processing of internal company programs, such as Perfect Attendance and Production Bonus.
- Assist in the preparation of accurate and comprehensive management reporting including labour utilization and spend analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of the Annual Plan and periodic forecasts.
- Assist in the Month-End close process including journal entries, reconciliations and variance analyses to ensure timely and reliable Financial Reporting.
- Assist in Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable tasks.
- Adherence to continuously improve the automation of finance and reporting processes.
- Handles bi-weekly Group Pension/RRSP remittances, liaising with RSP provider.
- Month end accruals and reconciliation of benefit accounts and payroll sub-ledger to the general ledger.
- Overall responsibility for timely remittance and reporting of statutory contributions in compliance with regulations and statutory requirements.
- Other duties requested by Management.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Must have experience with Ceridian Day Force.
- 2-3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment would be an asset.
- Proven ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.
- Accuracy and attention to detail is critical.
- Ability to adapt quickly to demanding situations.
- Excellent organizational, prioritization and time management skills to deal with strict deadlines.
- Strong initiative and self-motivation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and business communication skills.
- Holds a Certified Payroll Designation through the NPI (National Payroll Institute), PCP, or CPM
- Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Strong aptitude for computer systems and software.
- A minimum of 5 years of payroll experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a tightly knit team and individually.
