Job Description
Position Summary
The Business Development Senior Manager/Director is accountable for selling biostorage services in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to support the growth of the expanding Northeast and Southeast biostorage business. The Business Development Senior Manager/Director uses his or her technical knowledge and experience to ensure excellent communication and to meet customer standards, satisfaction, and timelines. The position requires superior leadership behaviors of the Alcami core competencies and non-negotiables, as well as expertise in the functional competencies included in this position profile. The ideal incumbent resides in the Boston, MA area and will support operations in the Northern half of the country.
Essential Functions
  • Works collaboratively with other sales members to identify clients with additional needs aligned with service offerings offered at other Alcami sites.
  • Manages client relationships of active biostorage clients.
  • Participates in client visits including new business discussions and business review meetings, as needed.
  • Maintains accurate customer data and updates to the Customer Relationship Management system (Salesforce); generates timely reports (i.e. activity reports, metrics, etc.) as requested.
  • Drives business growth by prospecting new clients for the biostorage business.
  • Meets or exceeds sales targets through establishment of new accounts and upselling of additional services to existing accounts.
  • Acts as single point of contact for the customer business relationship for clients, from first client contact via prospecting to new business signings.
  • Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements.
  • Facilitates successful execution of services by ensuring smooth process from proposal signature to project execution.
  • Supports upselling and cross-selling opportunities to existing biostorage and lab services clients.
  • Develops a deep understanding of client’s pipeline, previous Alcami experiences and identifies opportunities for upselling new service lines.
Education And Experience
All Levels:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences field.
  • CMO or CDMO experience preferred.
  • Previous sales experience and strong customer service skills.
Business Development Senior Manager:
  • Minimum 5 years in a related business development role; 7 years preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in customer-facing role in a service business required; 7 years preferred.
Business Development Director:
  • 8+ years in a related business development role.
  • 8+ years of experience in customer-facing role in a service business required.

Functional Competencies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Prior experience or exposure to value-based selling and negotiations a plus.
  • Excellent customer service, organization skills and ability to multi-task required.
  • Technology orientation with the ability to gain proficiency using a Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) required.Prior experience with a Customer Relationship Management system (CRM), preferably Salesforce, preferred.
  • Results-oriented, determined and a self-starter; comfortable, willing and able to have difficult conversations with clients about timelines, budgets and unexpected results.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills required.
  • Prior pharmaceutical or CDMO experience in technical functions of development or manufacturing preferred.
  • Proficiency utilizing internet and social media tools for researching potential leads.
  • Knowledge of cGMP and drug development process through course work or prior work experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Decision Making And Supervision Required
  • Receives minimal instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.
  • Uses professional concepts, company policies and SOPs to solve a variety of problems.
Travel Requirements
  • Typically up to 25% travel required for site-based specialists, can be up to 50% for specialists who work remote.
