Literacy Central Vancouver Island (LCVI) is seeking a committed individual to join our talented and knowledgeable team. LCVI is an incorporated society and has been in operation for over 30 years supporting community learners from diverse backgrounds with various levels of literacy. This role primarily manages the Society's funds, ensuring that an adequate control structure is in place over receipt, recording and disbursement of funds in order to minimize risk. The role also demonstrates and provides management over operational aspects of the organization.
$23.15/hour -- 35 hours/week (with benefits)
Responsibilities
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING & REPORTING
- Prepare financial reporting for grants (CALP, BC Gaming, DECODA etc.)
- Assist Executive Director with preparation of financial information for grant applications.
- Ensure employees and contractors are paid in a timely and accurate manner
- Process and submit statutory and benefits remittances including T4s and T4As
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements
- Maintain in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures
- Review and correct entries made into the cash sheets and accounting system
- Maintain banking relationships and reconcile bank accounts
- Process payroll
- Manage employee and organization’s insurance plan
- Create additional analyses and reports as requested by the Executive Director
- Prepare year end financials and coordinate with the external accountant
- Report to Executive Director on variances from the established budget
- Code and enter all invoices; retail, office supplies, bills and payments; and process such payments online or via cheque
- Ensure all statutory requirements are met including Provincial and Goods Sales Tax fillings, Charitable Status, withholding payments (CPP, EI) etc.
- Manage outsourced functions like Merchant service agreement regarding POS terminal
- Review monthly inventory count and adjust accordingly
OFFICE MANAGEMENT
Administration
- Assist with executing special projects under the direction of the Executive Director
- Provide support to staff and volunteers as necessary
- Assist the Executive Director with day to day operations
- Chair the OHS Committee and follow up on recommendations with the Executive Director
Facilities
- Assist with the smooth operation and function of facility maintenance and compliances
- Liaise with property managers on day-to-day matters
Bookstore
- Support Bookstore Manager with inventory purchases and other activities as necessary
- Support front line staff as required
IT & Communications
- Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain effective operation of communications networks, systems and tools
Qualifications
Bookkeeping and/or accounting certification
