Who You Are

You are equal parts business manager/developer and people leader and you enjoy both roles. You'll provide guidance, feedback and mentorship as you actively lead our management team. You'll pull on your ability to collaborate, hear different perspectives, work through conflict, hold people accountable and challenge the team to bring their best. You're comfortable seeking consensus when it's warranted but can also make solid decisions on your own. You're confident in your business management and development skills. With an eye for finance, you can analyze the numbers to ensure appropriate profit margins, increase efficiencies, and assess capacity. You also love growing and developing the business, keeping an ear to the ground for, and seeking new opportunities where we can contribute even more to the ever-changing renewable energy sector. Armed with these two skill sets, you're excited about the opportunity to take on a new challenge and lead this company into a profitable, impactful future.

Some (but Not All) Of Your Responsibilities

• Prepare and manage budget, ensuring costs are controlled and revenues are maximized
• Build community partnerships and alliances
• Oversee daily business operations, including administration, procurement, and vendor relationships
• Look for and pursue development opportunities to responsibly grow the company
• Foster and grow a dynamic, engaged culture
• Develop, refine and implement the VEC Business Plan
• Inspire and lead the VEC management team, including holding accountabilities, managing performance and acting as a supportive mentor and guide
• Promote and embed B-Corp values and community engagement

Skills And Qualifications

• Able to inspire, motivate and lead a team and foster a strong culture
• Knowledge and understanding of a worker's co-op is considered a significant asset
• Organized, meticulous, attention to detail and technologically savvy
• Exceptional communication skills and experience with having challenging conversations
• Minimum 5 years' experience managing a business of 15-18 employees anticipating $5 million in sales
• Degree in Business Management, Leadership, Business Administration or equivalent experience

Please note, VEC's warehouse is located south of Duncan. While there is no designated office space and you'll be working from home for some of the time, it's expected that you will be available to come to the VEC location for a variety of reasons and sometimes on short notice. Qualified applicants living in the Cowichan Valley preferred, but if applying from out of the area and you can meet this obligation please acknowledge this in your cover letter.

WAGE: $85 - 100,000
