Who You Are

• A deep understanding of the Canadian media and social media landscape, excellent contacts with technology, national and business publications as well as key social/online influencers.
• A strong storyteller with exceptional writing and editing skills - you can synthesized complex ideas and develop powerful storylines.
• Solid project management skills with the ability to meet landmarks, tight timelines, and balance concurrent projects
• Strong people skills, intuitive ability to read people, influence where appropriate and act when necessary.
• Experience working with an international/multinational company. Great to have worked in an IT company, not a requirement.
• A seasoned communications leader with 8-10 years of direct PR and communications experience.
• Experienced people leader with expertise in executive and employee communications.
• Ability to navigate complex international environment.
• A flexible and resilient problem solver with the ability to gain consensus among others and manage sensitive situations.

What You'll Do

As a seasoned communications leader, you will manage the integrated communications program for Cisco Canada – recently named the #1 Best Workplaces in Canada. Reporting to the VP of International Communications, you will lead all media and employee communications (internal and external) in Canada, in close collaboration with the Canada Employee and Executive Communications Manager, who will report to you. Your responsibilities will include long term planning and execution, media relations, and content and story development, in a fast-paced and highly driven environment. You will work with key influencers including print, online, broadcast and social media; subject matter experts, and others. You will be accountable for measurable results.
As an active member of the International Communications leadership team, you will help drive the team’s joint success while driving the success of local communications. That includes working in partnership with all communications functions, business leaders and marketing including the Cisco Canada leadership team.
The success of this role requires the ability to balance several priorities. It requires you to prioritize and focus on the areas where communications can have the biggest impact and demonstrate tangible results around influencing audience’s perceptions, attitudes, and behaviours.
Some of the responsibilities:

• Design and drive communications programs that help position the company’s relevance and advance its thought leadership and innovation profile.
• Drive regular planning and reporting meetings. Track and report success metrics and use the data to continually improve communications programs. Socialize communications plans and results with key business.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships across the International and Global Communications Organization.
• Translate business goals into communications objectives, understand and influence audience perceptions.
• Build and amplify narratives in line with Cisco’s key business, technology and purpose narratives, with local relevance.
• Develop executive speaker messaging and platforms that position the company and spokespeople as trailblazers within a competitive market. Provide counsel to communications, marketing, and business colleagues.
• Manage the PR agency against results, and ensure the agency becomes a trusted extended part of the team.
