What is our client looking for?
Our client is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for their growing firm. The selected candidate will hold a crucial role responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the firm’s financial operations. As the CFO, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing financial strategies, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations and providing valuable financial insights to support business decisions and guide the firm toward financial success and sustainable growth.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy, Planning & Forecasting
- Ensure accuracy of the ERP system in terms of process and data integrity and data management.
- Review quarterly performance, compare them to the budget, analyze the reasons for deviations and take corrective action.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights into the organization's financial health.
- Lead financial performance monitoring and improvement plans.
- Lead the budgeting process that strikes the right balance between discipline, simplicity, flexibility, and growth.
- Implement strategies to optimize cash flow and working capital management.
- Define and implement key performance indicators and strategic objectives and facilitate measurement of those objectives, reporting results back to the business.
- Provides direction and oversight for the firm’s financial management framework (such as strategic planning, risk management, costing, funding, forecasting & budgeting, payroll, resource planning reporting, internal controls, etc.) while ensuring a deep integration with the firm’s strategic orientations.
- Collaborate with senior management to set financial goals and objectives, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
- Develop and execute the firm’s financial strategy to achieve long-term growth and profitability.
- Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity and financial stability.
Financial Operations & Team Leadership
- Overall responsibility for the design and operating effectiveness of the finance and accounting team.
- Design, implement and monitor appropriate internal controls for the department.
- Build trust and collaborate effectively with the leadership team to make strategic decisions swiftly.
- Lead and coach the finance and accounting team, with a focus on upskilling and talent development.
- Transform, modernize and automate the finance and accounting processes.
- Oversee the system of vendor payments and expense claims, including the technology platform, standardization of processes, and implementation of best practices.
- Lead and foster a culture of teamwork, integrity, and curiosity throughout the team to deepen relationships across the organization and leverage the firm’s relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Participate in the decision-making process in the organization, in consultation with the Managing Partner and Management Team.
Financial Reporting Analysis
- Present financial information to the executive team and stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Provide stewardship and oversight for the firm’s monthly, quarterly and annual reporting as well as cash flow statements and financial forecasts.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities and potential risks.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, tax laws and regulatory requirements.
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard financial assets and minimize risks.
- Oversee research and compliance with financial reporting policy.
- Submission of annual insurance application forms and supporting schedules.
Skills & Qualifications:
- CPA designation required.
- A "roll up the sleeves" mentality towards problem-solving.
- High level of integrity, sense of creativity, and good business judgment.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills with strong interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual in both English and French (spoken & written).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
- Proven experience as a CFO or senior financial executive in an accounting firm and/or other professional service environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.
- In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, and tax related laws.
- Strong understanding of technology and data analytics.
