About the job

Regenerative Capital Group (RCG) is looking for motivated, talented and experienced business professionals, entrepreneurs, and social impact leaders with the ambition to partner with RCG to search for, acquire and lead a small/medium-sized enterprise as Chief Executive Officer.

As an experienced and entrepreneurial business operations leader, you are ready for the pivotal and purpose-driven move of your career.

Beginning as an RCG ‘CEO-in-Residence’, you will lead an up to 18-month professional search in order to find and acquire one small/medium-sized company in Canada. Through our “Regenerative Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) Leadership Academy”, you will have access to educational, financial, business resources, mentorship and training supports from the RCG team during your search, as well as a base salary plus vested equity in your acquired business that will grow as you take your business on a long-term, regenerative value creation journey.

Successful candidates will search, acquire and manage a company in Canada with a commitment to regenerative leadership & value creation. Leadership that is not only purpose-driven, but also focuses on solutions that aim to a future where the organization flourishes, its wider social and environmental ecosystems thrive, and where its people and relations come alive. You will ultimately prove that leading organizations beyond myopic financial capitalism to broader horizons of multi- capitalism is just ‘better business’ from a strategic, values-based, and profitability perspective.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build a culture that embraces a Regenerative Mindset, innovation and transformation.
  • Review product/service offerings, portfolio strategies, existing brand positioning, wider stakeholder ecosystem relationships, identify opportunities & implement strategies.
  • Grow the business top line via impactful marketing and sales initiatives.
  • Establish together with RCG a search process aiming to generate sufficient deal flow with the ultimate goal of finding a business to acquire in accordance with pre-defined criteria.
  • Step into the CEO role of your newly acquired business.
  • Manage efficiencies and ensure profitable growth.
  • Manage geographical expansions, when required, preparing and successfully implementing market entrance strategies.
  • Identify regenerative value creation opportunities.
  • Manage the acquisition process with the support of our experienced M&A/Regenerative Value Creation team.
  • Co-create with the RCG team strategic and regenerative growth options and business opportunities, develop long term business strategies and 180-day plans.
  • Participate in our Regenerative ETA Leadership Academy cohort, learning best practices for your entrepreneurship through acquisition journey as well as Regenerative Business Leadership strategies and mindsets, all while supporting and collaborating with your 4-6 person cohort.
  • Assemble and lead a high-performing team.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Managing or executing in an entrepreneurial atmosphere with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities concurrently.
  • Ability to facilitate collaboration among multiple parties with disparate views and objectives and align the group toward a cohesive outcome.
  • An aspiration to use business as a force for good to address the pressing challenges of our time.
  • Be a community builder to establish relationships with multi-faceted stakeholder groups and key partners.
  • Superior project management skills: self-starter who can manage and independently prioritize across multiple streams of work in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Ability to speak confidently in settings ranging from large group events to meetings with senior government, industry, and business leaders.
  • External presence and judgment, with experience in building partnerships.
  • Leadership & operational management, with demonstrated experience in leading teams, collaborating with senior leaders, and coaching others.
  • Strong relationship management skills, with ability to influence and mobilize others while working virtually and remotely; thrive in collaborative environments.
  • Operates with entrepreneurial spirit; able to envision and seed new opportunities.
  • Detail-orientation. You must be ready to get your hands into every detail of the work.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and organizational planning abilities with a proven track record of diagnosing and solving problems, working with ambiguity, uncertainty, and complexity through multi-stakeholder relationships and a drive towards execution.
  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems and to work without being closely managed, yet highly coachable.

MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Fluent in English.
  • The insatiable appetite to find a good business and figure out how to make it even better by becoming a 21st century regenerative business.
  • The desire for societal transformation and impact, connected to a deep personal desire for growth and transformation.
  • Experience with P&L responsibility and leadership in managing teams.
  • A proven track record of entrepreneurial experience running, growing businesses or other ventures.

NICE-TO-HAVE REQUIREMENTS

  • A history of personal development work
  • Owner, Founder or co-Founder of a Start-up
  • Recent successful business transformation experience
  • MBA or Exec. MBA degree
  • M&A experience
  • Systems thinking experience
  • Experience managing and operating a SME

RCG is a Canadian-based Social Impact Fund that runs an Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition program with a focus on Regenerative Leadership. Our selection process for the program is highly competitive and includes several interviews, case assignments and assessments. The selection process is lengthy and includes the following steps for those that are selected to move through the whole process:

Expression of Interest: Complete the short application form indicating that you’re interested in becoming a CEO-in-Residence. Submit this along with your resume and cover letter.

Video Submission:If your application form and resume qualifies you to proceed, you will be asked to submit a video for our hiring committee’s review.Specific questions and instructions will be provided upon invitation.

Interview and Case Study: Qualified candidates will be invited to a virtual interview with RCG’s leadership team. You’ll spend 30 mins answering interview questions, 15 mins discussing a case study you’ll have received in advance and 15 mins for Q&A

Case Study and Industry Sector Review:Those moving forward will be asked to prepare for an in-depth case study as well as be ready to speak to up to three industries of interest to your search thesis. This virtual meeting is 90 minutes in length. You will have a minimum of five days to prepare for this interview.

Attending RCG Summit in Vancouver: Top candidates will be invited to attend our annual conference in Vancouver from Oct 11-13. You’ll be immersed in the ecosystem, meet the team and earn the opportunity to network with partners, Searchers, investors and academia. Associated costs will be covered by RCG. Following this time together, the leadership team will be selecting the top 10 candidates.

Final Evaluation Week: Lastly, our final evaluation week will put leadership skills and business acumen to the test. Selecting candidates to join RCG as CEOs-in-Residence is an important decision - and it’s a big move for them as well! We’ll use this time to really get to know one another and ensure that if we move forward, it’s a match we’ll all be truly excited about.

Upon successful completion of all selection stages, up to 6 candidates will be invited to join the program.
