Reporting to the Mayor and City Council through the Mayor, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is the senior executive responsible for overseeing and managing all administrative and operational aspects of the City of Moncton. The CAO provides strategic leadership, guidance, and support to elected officials, department heads, and staff to achieve the municipality's goals and objectives. The CAO is accountable for operational excellence and that daily operations satisfy the by-laws and policies established by the governing body and they achieve the objectives set by the Mayor and City Council. The CAO is an engaged participant in all meetings of Council and Committees and keeps Council informed of the status of municipal programs and activities. Ensuring that operations are conducted in a fair and equitable manner, the CAO reports to Council on the concerns of residents and the financial status of the Corporation, directs the efficient and cost-effective operation of all functions and services, ultimately responsible for the implementation of a capital and operating budget of approximately $330M (2023).

The successful candidate is comfortable in a high-profile role and have a track record of excelling through growth and increasing complexity, galvanizing the community to come together with a shared purpose.


The ideal candidate has a post-secondary graduate level degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent education and experience with at least 10 years of executive leadership experience and an accomplished track record of leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.


Experience working in public sector senior leadership is an asset, as is experience working with or in a unionized workforce. Working knowledge of both English and French is a definite asset. They possess solid financial acumen and a continuous improvement, results-oriented mindset.
