Job Summary


Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick ( DMNB ) is one of the two campuses of Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine. The main administrative office is located on the UNB Campus in Saint John. Reporting to the Associate Dean DMNB , the Chief Operating Officer leads and oversees the effective and efficient operations of Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick. As a senior member of the leadership team, the incumbent provides direction for the overall operational management of DMNB in support of the Faculty of Medicine’s strategic vision. The incumbent provides leadership, stewardship and oversight of financial, human and other resources (research, postgraduate medical education, undergraduate medical education, continuing professional development) in a multi-site complex working environment.


The Chief Operating Officer is also responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships, agreements and reporting with internal and external constituents (Faculty of Medicine, Horizon Health Network, University of New Brunswick and the Government of New Brunswick’s departments of Health and Postsecondary Education, Training and Labour).


Key Responsibilities


  • Provides strategic oversight to the operational units within DMNB , developing and engaging staff and faculty in New Brunswick. Builds on existing relationships and develops partnership opportunities with organizations and the community at large.
  • Create a viable and strong organization ensuring stakeholder and community engagement able to sustain itself into the future. Contribute to building an active donor base bringing in long-term and ongoing support for expansion, development and growth in the community.
  • Responsible to work with the Departments of Postsecondary Education Training and Labour and Health for the development of program proposals to address resource challenges including full business/operational plans including start-up and operational funding and implementation and sustainability plans in accordance with accreditation standards.
  • Provides advice and mentorship to senior leadership and staff. Oversees/manages special projects as delegated by the Associate Dean DMNB .
  • Provides leadership, stewardship and management of fiscal activity including budgeting, reporting and auditing to manage risk and for short and long-term planning.
  • Identifies emerging trends and developments in academic management and leadership.


Note


The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications


  • Demonstrated experience managing successful large-scale change projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and overseeing complex budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience managing successful diverse administrative units.
  • Proven success in the development and implementation of strategic plans.
  • Master’s degree in business administration or relevant professional designation, plus a minimum ten years’ of progressive experience as a senior administrator in a complex organization (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
