Role Responsibilities

Join the Workplace Services Desktop Engineering Team and you'll work at the highest systems level to provide expert advice and counsel to users, management, and IT project teams for systems of the most complex nature (typically crossing function/location lines).

Evaluate new technologies and develop departmental standard practices. Recognized as a technical expert within the department and to demonstrate the ability to provide leadership and guidance to technical and non-technical associates. Identify or react to problems related to the end user technology infrastructure or in support of the software development process. Demonstrate a broad knowledge level across multiple areas of information technology. May be involved as a key team member on strategic or enterprise-wide technology issues.

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer with a primary focus on virtualization for Windows 10/11 and macOS. The successful candidate will be joining a very dynamic environment where he / she will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of Windows, macOS, Linux Virtual Desktop environments. You will be a major influencer and team member within an established team underway to migrate our Windows VDI platform from Amazon Workspaces to Microsoft AVD. You will ensure that our virtual desktop environments meet our business requirements and provide a world class user experience for our clients while protecting the firm.

Primary Responsibilities

• Collaborates with architects to plan, design, implement, and improve new capabilities, enhancements, solutions and/or platforms.
• Coordinates with network, server services, and security teams to resolve issues and ensure a consistent and compatible configuration across the client infrastructure.
• Acts as a liaison between the Desktop Engineering VDI team and members of the user community for the purposes of establishing a feedback loop and proliferating best practices.
• Experience with ServiceNow or other ticketing systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
• Develops team vision to drive new capabilities against a published roadmap, in conjunction with management.
• Promotes and supports a culture of compliance, risk avoidance/mitigation, and corporate accountability throughout the organization through technical leadership, knowledge of business need, development and communication of policies, procedures, and plans, and assurance of solution designs that follow architecture standards, technology guardrails, security, and operational guidelines.
• Researches, maintains, and applies expertise in emerging technologies, and industry developments, trends, best practices, and principles of virtualization.
• Ensures that proposed and existing systems are aligned with organizational standards, goals, and objectives.
• Provides technical input to major service outage root cause analysis and corrective action reports.
• Facilitates automated software deployment, as well as image creation and compatibility.
• Develop scripts and automation tools to improve the efficiency and reliability of Windows Virtual Desktop deployments and management.
• Be an escalation point for issues involving end-user hardware or software in the virtual environment not able to be addressed by VDI operations team members.
• Ensures security compliance through patching, encryption, configuration management, energy management, remote device management, and reporting/visibility.
• Technical leader, focusing on taking accountability and demonstrates reliability.
• Able to work in a team environment with a versatile attitude capable of overcoming difficult challenges.
• Be a VDI experience design owner that engage and motivate employees to do their work effectively.
• Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
• Proven senior level experience configuring, deploying, and managing governance of Amazon Workspaces and or Azure Virtual Desktop environments (preferred), or any other modern cloud VDI environment.
• Integrates diverse solution components across multiple platforms using industry standard interfaces.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across teams, stakeholders, and executive sponsors concisely and effectively.
• Produces enterprise-level designs for key global initiatives and follows those through to implementation by collaborating and communicating with project, engineering, and support teams.
• Enhances automation of applications, systems, and platforms and identifies opportunities for streamlining, and continuous process improvement.
• Work with security teams to ensure that Windows Virtual Desktop environments are secure and compliant with relevant industry standards and regulations.

Qualifications

• Possesses skills to provide consulting on Microsoft topics and designs with team members and other peer teams.
• Knowledge of integrated components, including Windows Server 2016/2019‚ AD domain services, AD Certificate Services, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy Objects, permissions, and authentication.
• Knowledge of Azure Virtual Desktop licensing, FSLogix, and Azure Virtual Desktop host pools.
• Working knowledge and hands on experience in Microsoft Intune, Active Directory, Amazon AWS, Azure Virtual Desktop, Power BI, Windows 10.
• Proficient in at least 1-2 scripting languages (PowerShell preferred) and Python.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in Virtual Desktop engineering with a preference of experience in Amazon Workspaces and Microsoft Azure VD platforms.
• Preferred experience with Nerdio or other third-party solutions to supplement a Microsoft AVD environment.
• Experience with VDI transport protocols.
• Proficient in using vendor provided APIs.

Education Qualification and Certification Requirements 

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in IT industry in relevant area.
• Industry certifications in relevant areas is a plus. 
• Bachelor's Degree in computer science or equivalent area of study.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $99,200 to $143,900, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
