You will be working in a friendly and collaborative environment with the opportunity to interface directly with clients.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the existing mechanical group in coordinating the assignment of work for yourself and the team to ensure workloads are evenly distributed.
  • Managing and mentoring junior engineering and drafting staff.
  • Specification and report preparation and detailed review.
  • Projects involve local work for the Thunder Bay office mechanical group and other disciplines as well as support on projects for KGS Group’s other offices in Canada and the United States.
  • Engineering drawing preparation and review, with specific focus on directing drafting staff on how to layout, annotate and organize high quality mechanical drawings.
  • Projects will involve a wide range of clients with a variety of small to large sizes in the commercial, institutional and municipal sectors with potential for addition of industrial projects.
  • Construction services including hosting meetings, reviewing shop drawings, progress claims, liaise between Contractors and Owner, commissioning assistance, and construction inspections / substantial completion.
  • Mechanical engineering analysis and design of modifications to, or entirely new, mechanical systems.
  • Working directly with client groups including architects, owners and contractors.

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experience. Some highlights could include:

  • Ability and desire to own a task or project and see it through to completion with high quality deliverables.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in mechanical engineering with demonstrated technical (data analysis, code and regulations reviews, design calculations, technical report writing) and project management skills (writing project progress reports, tracking budgets and maintaining schedules).
  • Ability to adapt to and meet the challenges of a variety of different projects from clients in many different industries.
  • Must be willing/able to undergo security clearance checks.
  • Demonstrated mechanical design experience in commercial and light industrial building mechanical systems including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems for renovation and greenfield projects.

  • Experience working on multi-discipline projects.
  • Industrial (non-commercial) experience is a strong asset but not essential.
  • Travel to project sites is usually limited but is required depending on project/client requirements.
