Maintenance Mechanical Engineer Jobs

Reporting to the North American Spoke Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for using technology to help generate designs for complex projects. These designs may be used to create 2D images, 3D images, or solid modeling. In addition, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for all engineering activities within their given discipline. The ideal candidate is expected to pro-actively oversee external engineering design teams through project development, detailed engineering and construction. The Mechanical Engineer will play a key part of Li-Cycle’s owner’s engineering team. Throughout the design process the Mechanical Engineer will review designs for accuracy and efficiency in order to construct a safe and economical facility. A broad knowledge across all aspects of mechanical equipment and piping design for industrial facilities is required.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Create and update database of design records for future reference purposes
• Address limitations of technologies and materials involved in the CAD process
• Review of piping isometric drawings and material shop fabrication drawings.
• Work with other teams to obtain reference information for drawings, while ensuring to execute projects on time and on budget
• As needed, arrange, and attend meetings, including recording, writing, and issuing of minutes.
• Interface with Li-Cycle management, business, and engineering teams to resolve project related issues.
• Work with engineering and / or other departments to investigate and resolve problems and / or offer alternative design concepts with existing designs
• Participate in engineering and manufacturing design reviews to evaluate design concepts and make recommendations
• Review of equipment supplier engineering and shop fabrication drawings.
• Review process equipment technical datasheets
• Review supplier bid proposals for completeness and compliance with RFP documentation.
• Use software to create detailed 2D and / or 3D designs for complex projects
• Review design layouts to find and resolve problems involving compatibility with basic design concepts and run simulations and stress-tests on all 3D models before prototyping
• Make corrections to the drawings as requested by the senior staff
• Incorporate feedback into 3D model designs, and revise models as requested
• Collaborate with others to establish timelines and budgets, as well as solve problems
• Provide field support as needed for project engineering and construction teams.
• Review and approval of project design criteria, material specifications, process diagrams, engineering designs, and construction details.
• Coordinate and work with project stakeholders across multiple organizations to reduce risk and enable maximum value delivery for Li-Cycle.

Job Qualifications:

• Knowledge of industry best practices
• Understanding of selection, operation and maintenance of industrial equipment
• Make decisions based on designs
• Experience in full project life-cycle execution (i.e. planning through commercialization)
• Ability to think in a three-dimensional manner
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a mechanical engineer in an industrial manufacturing design or operating environment
• Use of hands to operate computers
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
• Excellent attention to detail
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Candidates with other related engineering degrees will be considered
• Travel up to 25% of the time to witness test-work, equipment acceptance tests, project construction and others.
• Ability to collaborate with others to solve problems
