Staff Mechanical Engineer – Pumps

Handles specific functions within the Pump Engineering Department and be technical leader for Pump value stream. Responsible for mechanical design and hydraulic performance of centrifugal pumps. As a technical leader, individual drive new product development and provide solution to technical challenges though team collaboration. Promotes culture of innovation and experimental activities.

This position is loc­ated in Toronto.

In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:

Strategy and planning

• Conduct detail design review to approve new design and revision of existing design.
• Perform tolerance stack up analysis of an assembly.
• Ability to review finite element analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis reports.
• Lead technical discussion among value stream/ community.
• Provide key technical input to new product development specification.
• Provide Engineering support to inquiries from various departments (shop, buyer/planners, marketing, sales, service, tech support etc.).
• Prepare 3D Model, complex assemblies and 2D drawing using SolidWorks. Apply GD&T per ASME 14.5 to prepare high quality manufacturing drawing.
• Process Engineering change order (ECO) for new or change in existing design/drawing release.
• Maintain BOM in PLM & ERP system. Set up item data as per requirements within ERP system.
• Perform engineering calculations, design pump components and casting components.
• Review Manufacturing drawing & assembly for design approval.
• Provide Engineering support to QA for day-to-day production issues.
• Conduct DFMEA for new and existing products.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Build trust and close working relation ship with peers and team members.
• Prepare and review test reports.
• Participate in ECRB (Engineering change review Board) process for ECO and EAR processing.
• Prepare design verification test plan for new product development.

Education & Skills:

• Computer literate including Microsoft office.
• Good knowledge of commonly used materials in the industry, their key mechanical properties and application.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Self-motivation and commitment to achieving high standards of quality and efficiency.
• Ability to write reports and complete paperwork accurately and legibly.
• Ability to plan and manage a varied workload and have a pro-active and flexible attitude.

Experience & Background:

• Very Good knowledge of general manufacturing process, achievable tolerances, and inspections methods. Experience in assigning GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Solid Works CAD skills to a good/high level. Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) certification is an asset.
• 3+ Experience in design rotating equipment.
• Experience with Electrical & control system and computer programming is an asset.
• Experience in pump industries and hydraulic design a plus.
• Experience working with electrical motors and Variable frequency drive a plus.
• Experience designing plastic parts, cast parts, metal parts, and assemblies an asset.
