Job Title: Systems Engineer
Direct Report: Systems Engineering Team Lead
Work Location: Toronto - Hybrid

Individuals within the Systems and Applications Services team are responsible for the design, implementation, and management of secure and highly available computing platforms, servers, and services of local and wide area infrastructure. They ensure the ongoing reliability, performance, and support of the infrastructure through monitoring, incident response, problem resolution, and growth planning. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in VMware VCenter, HP Storage Solutions (3PAR, Alletra), Active Directory, M365, Windows 2016/2019, Ubuntu.
Essential Job Functions / Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Investigates and resolves user problems, manages small to medium-sized projects, and maintains confidentiality with regard to information processed, stored, or accessed by the network.
- Acts as a technical liaison, providing critical operational insight to upcoming implementations and strategies, including validation of ongoing solutions supportability.
- Leads and implements infrastructure solutions based on application needs and growth projections.
- Performs Administrative Tasks and Manages Infrastructure Systems including M365 (Endpoint manager, Defender for Cloud etc.)
- Other duties as assigned.
- Leads and coordinates enterprise-level initiatives and projects, including training for other teams on new technologies.
- Forecasts utilization patterns and identifies modifications or upgrades to improve performance.
- Develops PowerShell and/or Python scripts to streamline infrastructure management.
- Communicates events and issues to stakeholders, IT teams, and leadership, and develops new alerts and monitoring techniques as needed.
- Provides expert-level support for Active Directory, Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Windows/Ubuntu systems and services, including the coordination of problem resolution with other IT teams and stakeholders.
- Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and standards, and leads or provides technical direction for testing efforts.
Competencies, Skills, and Experience:
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Ability to learn new software and hardware packages and adapt to changes in technology.
- Experienced in planning, designing, and maintaining data networks and servers, with knowledge of VPN, LAN, WAN technologies.
- Familiarity with automated monitoring and deployment tools and experience working with backup technologies and incident ticketing systems.
- Experience with VMware, Jira, Wiki, Salesforce, MS Endpoint manager, MS Defender for Cloud, Exchange Online, SharePoint and other M365 services.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with scripting and tasks automation using PowerShell, Python, Terraform and Ansible.
- 5+ years of experience as a systems engineer or similar role, with expertise in Active Directory, Windows 2012 R2/ 2016/2019, Ubuntu, Proven experience working on Azure and AWS Cloud infrastructures.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
