Located in Fergus and a top employer in the region, we are recruiting for a Controls Engineer to join our team.


As a global leader in advanced cabling and connectivity solutions, Nexans mission is to Electrify the Future by offering an extensive range of best-in-class products and innovative services.


In this role you will develop and improve manufacturing processes as they apply to the production of wire and cable products to ensure quality product at competitive cost. You will accomplish engineering tasks that require technical data gathering and analysis, problem identification and resolutions, process evaluation, cost improvements and capital project identification, justification and implementation.


AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY


  • Measure and document all improvements including program, electrical, mechanical changes.
  • Keep abreast of technological developments that would improve products, processes and/or procedures.
  • Ensure efficient operation of existing machine control systems
  • Interact closely with Maintenance to troubleshoot process issues.
  • Develop advanced controls strategies to improve machine and process efficiencies and reduce carbon footprint
  • Support the implementation of Industry 4.0 use cases.
  • Create control systems for new and upgraded equipment
  • Identify and develop concepts for cost reduction through continuous improvement process
  • Support and seek opportunities to reduce environmental impacts through waste reductions, recycling and reduction of pollution of air, water, soil and resources.
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations are enforced and complied with and that precautions are taken in order to prevent potential hazards.
  • Participate in future manufacturing investments.
  • Assess Production deviations and use analytical techniques to implement solutions.


EXPECTED RESULTS


  • Production, QA and Maintenance support as needed
  • Build information network consistent with Industry 4.0
  • Improvements to efficiency and equipment uptime as measured by labour variance
  • Improvements to materials consumption and scrap as measured by material variance and scrap rate
  • Daily support for Nexans Excellence Way to resolve daily equipment/process problems
  • Identify and implement improvement projects that may involve capital investments


Required Skills & Qualifications


  • Excellent mechanical and electrical trouble shooting skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of electrical/control systems and PLC programs
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills are a must
  • Strong problem-solving skills and process thinking skills
  • Knowledge using Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of Solid Works/Auto CAD
  • Needs to be hands-on
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with 3D printing an asset
  • Good information systems and database skills
  • University degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering along with 2+ years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Occasional after hours work and calls
  • Ability to learn equipment, processes, products and standards
