JUNIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER


LOCATION: Thunder Bay, ON


STUATUS: Full Time

Our mining and heavy industrial-focused group in Thunder Bay, ON is experiencing continued growth and we are searching for a junior Electrical EIT to join our team. We specialize in small to mid-sized projects for clients across Canada. The scope of our projects range from studies to full EPCM in mining or related industries.


Our Electrical EITs work on projects within our Thunder Bay team, as well as help with assignments from our other Canadian offices. These positions report directly to the Electrical & Instrumentation Staff Manager.


Responsibilities


  • Assist with the design of instrumentation and process control systems.
  • Assist senior staff with on-site commissioning and start-up when required.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure that documents and drawings are properly checked in accordance with company and client standards.
  • Perform on-site E&I field reviews and construction assistance with senior staff when required.
  • Work collaboratively on multidiscipline projects with our project managers, project engineers, and the other engineering disciplines in our offices.
  • Assist with technical calculations and use software for load calculations, arc flash studies, fault & coordination studies, and power system design.
  • Develop standard electrical and instrumentation (E&I) deliverables, including: equipment specifications, single-line diagrams, motor schematics & wiring diagrams, cable block diagrams, cable schedules, power & control layouts, instrumentation and valve specifications, instrument loop drawings, instrument location drawings, control system panel layouts and wiring diagrams, and installation scopes of work.
  • Assist with industrial control system programming (PLC and/or DCS) when required.
  • Assemble tender and construction documents and drawings for issue to clients.
  • Assist with the design of power distribution, control, communication, and lighting systems.


Qualifications - External


REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE


  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan time commitments on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Canadian electrical standards and codes is considered an asset.
  • Since this is a junior-level position, previous experience in consulting, mining, forestry, or other industries is not necessary; but is considered an asset.


Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • 0-3 years of experience (junior-level position)

  • Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing and background checks may be required for our client worksites
  • If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some Tetra Tech positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
  • A requirement of working for Tetra Tech is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada. A copy of a valid work permit may be required.
  • Periodic travel within Canada to client sites and regional Tetra Tech offices will be required
  • Must be able to adhere to our Office Vaccination & Covid Policies. We will be confirming your eligibility to comply with these requirements.
  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions.
