Senior Electrical Systems Engineer

Required Skills and Experience

- 8+ years of experience in electrical design and/or maintenance with demonstrated experience working with high and low voltage distribution systems, switchgears, and networks (up to 15KV)

- University degree in Electrical Engineering with license to practice in Ontario; registered and in good standing with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEng)

- Sound knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, City by-laws and other applicate legislation and regulations

- Ability to read electrical drawings (Ex/ single line diagrams, DC schematics, three line diagrams)

- Basic Knowledge of AutoCAD, with the ability to review and update drawings

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Project

- Excellent written and oral communication skills

Nice to Have Skills and Experience

- Understanding of industry established maintenance practices for high and low voltage electrical equipment

- Ability to read relay sequence of events and COMTRADE files following protection system events

- Experience in electrical modelling software for short circuit coordination and arc flash incident energy calculations -- experience using ETAP is an asset

- Experience with a CMMS system for maintenance management -- experience with SAP is an asset

Insight Global is looking for a Sr. Electrical Systems Engineer to join a top University in Toronto. The Engineer will be a member of the electrical team within the Utilities and Building Operations in the Facilities and Services Department. They will be responsible for planning and directing the operations and maintenance of the University's main high and low voltage electrical distribution systems and maintenance of the building electrical distribution systems. This candidate will also be responsible for ensuring designs and changes meet published electrical design standards through project design reviews, factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, deficiency walkthroughs and commissioning activities. The typical projects on this team include planning for large electrical equipment maintenance, replacement of aging electrical distribution equipment, electrical load segregation/optimization, re-adjustment of protective systems in high and low voltage distribution systems and analyzing and resolving electrical system breakdowns. The successful candidate will be able to successful perform all aspects of electrical engineering as defined by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), including reviewing design, specification and drawings on renovation projects to determine load requirements and electrical supply, cost effectiveness and compliance, inspecting new building and electrical systems to ensure they adhere to construction and renovation drawings, recommend corrective action of new buildings, and provide technical expertise regarding operation of electrical equipment, methods, and maintenance.
