The Opportunity:


WSP’s Buildings M&E Team is currently seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our team located in our Cornwall office. A key member of the Mechanical and Electrical Team reporting to the Electrical Team Lead, this person will be a team player in an evolving team, responsible for developing the design of electrical building systems through to completion of the design packages and following through with the construction administration.

A day in the life:


  • Design leading-edge engineering solutions for the various electrical and electronic building systems, including low voltage power distribution (including emergency power and UPS), lightning protection and grounding, fire detection and voice alarm, public address, passive telecommunications and security systems infrastructure, lighting and lighting controls systems, and external underground services infrastructure.
  • Application of Electrical Engineering requirement, Ontario Building Code (OBC), Electrical Safety Authority, and IEEE standards for Building and Site design.
  • Perform individually or as a team member with electrical discipline and under direct supervision of senior engineers or discipline leads.
  • Work in conjunction with different stakeholder groups to develop and articulate the merits of the selected solutions for the various electrical systems.
  • Perform site investigations to determine project background information, as well as site reviews of building construction projects to determine compliance with project documents and OBC general review requirements.
  • Develop technical specifications.
  • Preparing AutoCAD drawings and Revit 3D modeling for all electrical building systems.


We'd love to hear from you if you have...


  • Must possess detailed working knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, National Building Code of Canada and the Ontario Building Code.
  • Familiarity with software used for engineering studies - arc flash, load, fault and coordination studies, lighting, grounding, etc. is an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years electrical engineering and design experience on major complex building projects – experience with large scale, institutional projects a distinct advantage.
  • Ability to work independently to deliver comprehensive designs and meet the projects deadlines.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with a strong desire and ability to collaborate and problem solve in an integrated team environment.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • Experience working in different delivery models – i.e. CM, Design Build, P3 projects a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in designing electrical systems for buildings, transportation, healthcare and light industrial projects including but not limited to: power distribution, lighting, life safety, security, IT, Communications (COMM), Building Automation System (BAS);
  • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit MEP 3D and proficient in MS Office Applications.
  • Must possess detailed working knowledge of CAN/ULC Standards for Life Safety Systems.
  • Detailed understanding of LEED v4.0 and ASHRAE standards.
  • Must have an advanced understanding of quality standards relative to electrical design and planning, engineering fundamentals and principles.
