Job Description
Position Overview
The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Fixed Term Full-time positions are for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator
his position will be required to work out of the Alberta Children's Hospital. Work intensity is variable and may, in occasion, require extended hours and may include travel for Rheumatology events/ Investigator meetings and educational opportunities.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Prepare study case report forms, assemble packages of questionnaires and maintain accurate electronic and paper records
  • Biobank: Establishing and maintaining - aliquoting, labeling and archiving of biologic samples
  • Independently confirmation and registration of eligible patients and determine their suitability for the research study that is to be conducted
  • Prepare presentations, manuscripts and project related topics
  • Case management of patients involved in clinical trials and research studies; recruitment and enrollment of human subjects. He/she will fully explain to the patients their involvement as a research participant, as well as provide an opportunity for questions
  • Coordinate and administer research projects per established study protocols and study procedure manuals
  • Advising/recommending on changes to procedures or practices performed on work unit
  • Coaching, training and development of junior team members (e.g. students, research assistants, volunteers) and management of the workload of individual team members to maximize productivity
  • Responsible for ensuring complete and accurate data collection and entry of data into electronic databases in a timely fashion and perform regular quality control checks on data entries
  • Develop informed consent documents based on regulations, REB consent templates and institutional requirements. Submit to REB and coordination revisions. Assist PI with annual approval process and amend and edit protocols and consents as required
  • Completion of tasks and duties that lead to successful research proposals and projects
  • Overseeing budget for upcoming, current and past studies including; paying invoices, annual budget, preparation of invoices for study sponsors
  • Conduct analyses of data collected through study Platform and associated projects
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Must be able to keep others informed of the progress and status of project
  • Excellent communication skills are essential both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required
  • 2-5 years experience in project management and completing projects on strict deadlines is essential
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g. Tri Council) is required
  • Must embraces continual improvement
  • Recognized research professional certification (e.g. CCRP, Certified Clinical Research Professional) an asset
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
  • Master's Degree (considered an asset) - Health sciences, Health Services Research, Epidemiology or Public Health
  • Knowledge of the University environment is a benefit (PeopleSoft, Efin, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and within a team environment are required
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability in professional writing, preparing reports and conducting literature reviews
  • Must possess demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities and trouble-shooting skills
  • Experience in database set up/maintenance, statistical skills is considered as an assent
  • 2-5 years of related research experience using clinical research methodologies is required (clinical trials/multicentre studies/registry experience considered an asset)
  • Bachelor's Degree (required) - any of Bachelor of Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Public Health, or Sciences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs is a requirement
