Job Description
Position Overview
The Faculty of Nursing invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 10 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Research Coordinator reports directly to the Principal Investigator of the project.
The work requires a high degree of accuracy and the ability to re-prioritize tasks to meet multiple competing deadlines. This position requires a high level of judgment and decision-making skills. The impact of error is high as decisions will affect implementation and/or timely completion of research projects within the allocated budget.
The purpose of this position is to coordinate a research project in Cardiac Sciences in Alberta Health Services.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Data Collection:
  • Data entered into Qualtrics
  • Lead and implement change to research data collection as appropriate and discussed with research team
  • Maintain clear documentation in research binder
  • Identify potential participants through triage rounds, pre-operative lists, cardiac surgeon offices
  • Contact participants to obtain consent
  • Administer tools to participants at designated times (pre-surgery, one month post and three months post surgery)
  • Oversees general operations related to data collection
Project Management:
  • Biweekly follow-up
  • Assists in the planning, developing, implementing and evaluation of the research project
  • Preparation and maintenance of research documents including but not limited to: consents, survey data, contact information
  • Facilitate meetings
  • Regular contact with key researchers
  • Coordinate with all team members: nurse clinicians, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, triage nurses, administrative staff
Analysis and Project write-up:
  • Ensure medical information is being handles appropriately and is kept confidential in accordance with privacy and CHREB guidelines
  • Participate in abstract development
  • Power Point Presentations to research committee, cardiac surgery research rounds, conferences
  • Draft article for publication under the direction of the researchers.
  • Establish and maintain accurate electronic and paper records in accordance with CHREB
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Highly developed time management and coordination skills with the ability to work on multiple and diverse research projects concurrently.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical RN experience in the cardiovascular area.
  • Proficient with survey administration software.
  • Currently employed in cardiac sciences within AHS
  • Experience as a clinician or charge nurse in cardiac sciences
  • Registered nurse with extensive cardiovascular surgery AND cardiology experience
  • High degree of judgment, discretion, and creativity are required.
  • Proficient utilizing information and communication technologies for web and database searches to conduct various types of literature reviews.
  • Knowledge of ethical principles and web-based ethics review board application systems.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS.
  • Knowledge of the University’s culture, policies, and practices is beneficial.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a team environment, with minimal supervision is critical.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Training in Qualtrics
  • Ability to lead, direct and mentor others including graduate students and research assistants.
  • Experience in writing reports and scientific manuscripts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • MOCA trained and certified
