Job Description
Position Overview
The Department of Production Animal Health in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a Project Manager, Alberta AMR Strategy. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 9 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Project Manager will be working independently and with minimal direction with the broad directives. This position will report directly to the Manager, Office of the One Health.
This position of Project Manager will manage a project funded by a contract with the Government of Alberta. The project is to mobilize the Implementation Proposal for the Alberta One Health AMR Strategy, a complex project involving stakeholders across many sectors in industry and government.
The incumbent is expected and required to work standard office hours, with occasional overtime as needed. There will be peak periods during this time with deadlines and tight timelines. Minimal travel is required, and the position will work remotely from home most weeks.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Develops relationships and foster engagement with stakeholders from government, industry and academic institutions across Alberta
  • Produces a high-quality project report for the Government of Alberta
  • Ensures all staff have a Hazard Assessments in place to reduce risk for their position
  • Ensures timely submission of all interim and final reports for the Government of Alberta
  • Manages the creation job profiles, hiring, and onboarding of staff
  • Organizes regular team meetings to effectively leads staff and provides timely support and guidance
  • Meets with representatives of the project sponsor on a regular basis to provide updates, discuss progress and other matters as required
  • Tracks achievement of goals, milestones and deliverables
  • Ensures appropriate application of Delphi method as described in the protocol
  • Provides oversight to all aspects of the project
  • Applies technical and functional knowledge to the project and guides its overall direction
  • Identifies, secures and allocates staffing and other resources required to complete the project and to maximize productivity of the team
  • Ensures representative selection of EIC members and sensitivity to the needs of EIC members
  • Ensures that the project is well contextualized within the fast-evolving field of infection prevention and control by consulting with the EIC and other project team advisors
  • Performs and engages staff in annual performance reviews
  • When required, performs disciplinary, including terminations, actions
  • Ensures compliance with institutional policies in the implementation of the research study by liaising with CHREB and Legal departments
  • Staff Management:
  • Monitors spending with a comprehensive project budget
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working across academic and government sectors facilitating research and developing public policy
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills are required
  • Ability to anticipate needs, plan, organize, coordinate and perform work with little or no direction
  • Experience with the Delphi method is preferred
  • Masters degree in Health Services Research is required, PhD is preferred
  • Requires experience with qualitative research, in particular surveys and workshops
  • Demonstrate strong communication, team and client service skills
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills and the ability to apply the concepts of the Delphi method to a diverse audience is required
  • Good understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is required – the science and the public and animal health implications of AMR
