Job Description
Position Overview
The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The Research Associate's primary purpose is to be responsible for protein purification and characterization for downstream academic and commercial applications. The incumbent may support other research projects by providing knowledge, skills, and on-the-job training to others.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Provides guidance to other staff, students, and faculty in the operation of equipment and laboratory protocols
  • Makes presentations at local, national and international workshops, conferences and symposia
  • Oversees the day-to-day activities of facility staff
  • Responsible for production, management, maintenance, or control of IPSC cultures to be used in various research projects
  • Responsible for arranging repairs and maintenance of equipment, ensuring safety compliance
  • Conducts literature reviews, surveys, data analysis and interpretation, laboratory experiments and other research for use in scholarly publications
  • Recommends and implements changes to methods, procedures, and practices within the organoid platform
  • Budget involvement including developing a cost-recovery fee structure for the platform, producing financial reports, tracking expenses, and reconciliation of accounts
  • Oversees reliable and safe operation of all laboratory equipment for various users, including stocking of all necessary materials and supplies
  • Contributes to plans, innovations and designs for specialized applications to meet the needs of operations, research, and services related to projects requiring the use of organoids in 3D or 2D culture
  • Initiates and maintains contacts with potential collaborators within the university community, within other universities and industry partners
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Understanding of safety codes and standards related to the position's specialization
  • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments.
  • Experience with laboratory and project management
  • Ability to provide technical support for other team members through advice on technical lab issues
  • Bachelors required;PhD preffered in the biological or life sciences
  • Knowledge of theory and practical application of technical procedures and techniques related to cell culture
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), GraphPad, Adobe Illustrator, internet usage
  • Minimum 4 years of biomedical laboratory experience involving bacterial and mammalian cell culture techniques is essential
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience in writing manuscripts, reports and grant applications
