Job Description
Position Overview
The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Research Coordinator. These Fixed Term Full-time positions are for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
The clinical research takes place within the Department of Medicine, Section of Nephrology, Division of Transplantation and the Biobank for the Molecular Classification of Kidney Disease, Precision Medicine Program in Nephrology with an overall objective to improve the health and quality of life of patients living with or at risk of kidney disease.
Must have own transportation to be able to travel between clinic locations in the city as required.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Complete research protocols ethics submissions (including but not limited to - applications, modifications, renewals, deviations, closures) and all research contract agreements
  • Accountable for protection of the rights and welfare of all human research participants involved in research in accordance with applicable regulatory bodies, the University of Calgary, CHREB and sponsoring agency policies and procedures
  • Implement clinical trial coordination tasks, including but not limited to: all start up activities; developing and revising recruitment plans; completing ethics applications; study contract process functions; completing all study related activities from start up to close out of delegated clinical research studies
  • Assists the PI with the completion of study feasibility assessments as requested
  • Organize studies in accordance with protocols, applicable contracts, budget requirements, and in compliance with all policies, procedures, and guidelines of the research group, the University of Calgary, applicable regulatory bodies, and the research ethics board
  • Assures that all key personnel or persons engaged in the research study have met the training requirements in accordance with applicable regulatory bodies, the University of Calgary, CHREB, and sponsoring agency policies, guidelines and procedures
  • Responsible for reporting of adverse and serious adverse events according to the study protocol and in accordance with local ethics board, regulatory agencies, and sponsor requirements
  • Responsible for the development of materials and tools necessary to appropriately train individuals involved in the conduct of the studies delegated to them
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • An understanding and experience with Clinical Trial Management and data capture systems
  • Knowledge and experience with ICH-GCP requirements, HIA, PIPA, FOIP, TCPS2
  • Experience with clinical trial research protocols, ethics submissions, research agreements/contracts with Health Care Institutions and Industry
  • Phlebotomy Certificate required
  • Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) designation an asset
  • Must have experience in clinical trial research, and have an understanding of nephrology and transplant health care delivery in both community and acute care settings as well as biobanking
  • Experience in hemodialysis, nephrology, and transplant-related care an asset
  • Must be proficient in standard system software applications (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and the Internet)
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must adhere to Alberta Health Services and University of Calgary vaccine mandates as required
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a health research related discipline, with prior experience (at least 5 years) in research. Nursing degree will be considered an asset
  • Proficient organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in working in academic research setting with Principal Investigators and Sponsors is an asset
  • Organizational, interpersonal, effective written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience in clinical research in an academic setting including experience coordinating clinical research trials
