Job Description
Position Overview
The Department of Cardiac Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Cllinical Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Clinical Research Coordinator utilizes knowledge of research methods in the planning and implementation of clinical research trials for the Advanced Heart Failure Team, within the Department of Cardiac Sciences. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Clinical Research Coordinator manages most aspects of site trial operations. Responsibilities include coordination and planning of all protocol-related assessments and evaluations, patient accrual, communication with the research ethics board, sponsor, investigators, service providers, other healthcare disciplines and partners in the research, and budget negotiations. The Clinical Research Coordinator is integral in the management of multiple protocols of various complexities within the appropriate time frames.
This position is at the Foothills Campus. However, travel to the South Health Campus, Rockyview General Hospital and/or Peter Lougheed Centre may be required.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Data collection, storage and data entry per protocol and all governing regulations
  • Screening, enrolment, management and retainment of study subjects
  • Actively seeks opportunities for professional development
  • Coordination of all personnel and services required to meet protocol requirements
  • Confidentiality of participant information and medical records
  • Preparation and submission of research applications, safety reporting, study amendments, closure etc. to CHREB, study sponsors, research partners and regulatory authorities as required
  • Primary study liaison for the heart failure team, collaborating with sponsors, research partners, CRO, CHREB and internal and external service providers on assigned projects and as required
  • Identifies own learning needs and pursues appropriate learning activities
  • Collaboration in the development of protocols bringing forth ideas for subject recruitment, study design, methodology and subject retention
  • Development of all required study tools including the informed consent document, source document worksheets, study advertisement and communications, and case report forms
  • Excellent record keeping and commitment to professional, personal and regulatory accountabilities
  • Participation in the evaluation of prospective study protocols to help determine feasibility based on team bandwidth and current demands
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Demonstrated technical dexterity, knowledge and skills in MS Office and electronic data collection and reporting
  • Active membership in Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) preferred
  • Direct working experience in contact the enrolment of study subjects is preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a research coordinator is required
  • Open to learning and development, willing to accept new challenges and assignments
  • Experience with the IRISS platform and regulatory reporting
  • Certification or evidence of attendance in professional development opportunities in the area of heart failure is an asset
  • Experience in investigator initiated research preferred
  • Effective ability to adapt to change and shifting priorities
  • Proven leadership and willingness to lead various projects from initiation to close
  • Bachelor in Health Science or another related area of study
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills
  • Fluent in English; excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and within a team environment
  • Experience in cardiology preferred, heart failure preferred
