Job Description
Position Overview
The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Project Coordinator, Recovery Community. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 13 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Associate Professor, Faculty of Social Work (FSW), Founding Director of the UCalgary Recovery Community (UCRC), and the Recovery on Campus Alberta Initiative. The coordinator will manage day-to-day operations of the UCalgary Recovery Community (UCRC) and will be directly responsible for the maintenance of recovery-related programing, including the community hub, and recruitment of new collegiate recovery members.
The Project Coordinator is an essential member of the UCRC-ROC team and will provide dedicated leadership in developing the UCRC initiative as a model Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) for the province of Alberta. This position is responsible for the continued development, implementation, and coordination of a comprehensive CRP that includes assessing needs and evaluating project outcomes. The successful candidate will also work alongside professional staff to increase UCalgary student and staff access to substance use/addictive behavior prevention and recovery support services, establish a visible network of peer recovery navigators and allies, and strengthen campus and community collaborations.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Staffing UCRC's on-campus recovery community hub.
  • Complete and submit grant performance reports.
  • Manage and secure resources to scale and expand recovery initiatives, including grant writing and fundraising initiatives.
  • Facilitate webinars/in-person events and presentations.
  • Create a part-time Peer Recovery Navigator (s) position (s) for the UCRC. These specialists will assist with all programing and hold drop-in hours for members.
  • Ensure accuracy and precision in tracking all grant-related expenses.
  • Engage and recruit UCalgary students and staff, focusing on those with lived experience of addiction and recovery.
  • Create partnerships across campus to connect departments in the shared goal of retaining and graduating students in recovery, and to facilitate connection to the UCRC.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the campus and in the province of Alberta.
  • Coordinate and expand all UCRC programming, including mutual aid meetings, scholarships, service opportunities substance-free residence housing and social events, recovery ally trainings, recruitment (e.g. classroom visits), marketing (e.g. social media, website), and resource referrals.
  • Provide supervision to Student Volunteers and Peer Recovery Navigators.
  • Develop processes to monitor program progress, and document participant attendance in all UCRC related programs and events.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Being a person with lived experience of addiction recovery is an asset.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with on-line platforms (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft teams) is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently, work independently, and prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years professional experience in the field of mental health, addiction and/or recovery.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and respect for unique pathways to recovery.
  • Master's degree in public health, social work, higher education, addiction studies, counseling, psychology, or related field and is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in program evaluation and interpreting findings to develop data-driven programs.
  • Ability to manage all finances and budgets. Ideally the coordinator is familiar with university systems of money management and accounting.
  • Experience working with substance use/addictions and demonstrated knowledge of how to incorporate prevention, harm reduction, and recovery in the context of higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and with limited supervision.
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate effective programs, services, and interventions.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate individual-and-group discussions and webinars about sensitive topics.
  • Experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, working with diverse populations, and a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
  • Strong ability to engage, mentor, and connect campus members who are in recovery, or seeking recovery.
  • Supervisory experience with students and/or staff is required.
