Goderich Mine : The Goderich Mine is located 1,800 feet under Lake Huron on the shores of Goderich, Ontario. It is the largest underground salt mine in the world and has been operating since 1959. This location employs over 500 people and annually produces 6.5 million tons of highway de-icing salt and chemical salt. It is transports product to customers around the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway via vessel, rail and roads. The salt is also used to make plastics, detergents, disinfectants, and other important products.
Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1 ½ hours from London, Stratford, and Kitchener-Waterloo.
Goderich Plant : The Goderich Evaporation Plant is proud to be one of Goderich’s first employers , tracing back to 1867.  Currently , the site employs 90 people, producing an annual capacity of 140,000 tons of evaporated food grade, agricultural, pool and water-softening salt, and additionally packages 100,000 tons of rock salt, serving customers throughout the Ontario, Quebec and Northern-Central United States regions.

Amherst : The Amherst Plant is located in a fully established community of 10,000, situated on the Nova Scotia/New Brunswick border on the northeast end of the Cumberland Basin, an arm of the Bay of Fundy. Amherst is two hours from Halifax and less than an hour’s drive from Moncton, NB.  The plant employs 50 and has an annual capacity of 127,000 tons of food grade and water-softening salt, serving customers throughout the Maritimes, Quebec and the Eastern United States.
Unity : The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2 hour drive from Saskatoon.  We’re proud to be one of Unity’s steadfast employers, currently employing 55-60 people. Annually, we produce 135,000 tons of food grade, water conditioning and agricultural salt, serving our customers throughout Western Canada.
Wynyard : The Wynyard Plant is located right on Big Quill Lake, in a friendly community of 1,800, situated 50 minutes from the city of Humboldt and a 2 hour drive from Saskatoon. Our Wynyard Plant is Canada’s largest producer of sulfate of potash (SOP), currently employing 34 people, with an annual production of 37,000 metric tonnes of SOP.  Our product is used in pharmaceuticals, specialized agricultural fertilizer, animal food and in various industrial applications, serving our customers throughout North America, South America, Europe, and regions of Asia.
We are looking for someone living in Canada to fill this position. This position is a remote position but will require travel to our sites at Amherst, Goderich, Unity and Wynyard. Travel will be based on business needs and could be up to 50%.
Summary: The Human Resources Business Partner is a strategic collaborator who will act as an employee champion and change agent, assess and anticipate HR-related needs, communicate those needs and see to develop integrated solutions. The HRBP establishes partnerships across the HR organization to deliver value-added service to managers and employees that reflect the objectives of the organization.
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • 40-50% travel required.
  • Collaborates with HR COEs and across all levels of the organization to ensure consistent HR operations.
  • Analyze trends and metrics to develop strategies, solutions, programs, and policies within HR.
  • Lead employee meetings and training on new employee orientation, employee benefits, and performance management. Identify training needs and coaching opportunities for managers and employees. Evaluate and monitor the success of training and coaching by ensuring objectives and goals are achieved.
  • Drive collaborative labor relations at the site level by working with both union representatives and management.
  • Works in conjunction with managers and employees to advance work relationships, build morale and engagement, and increase productivity and employee retention.
  • Consult with Director – Human Resources when necessary.
  • Actively participate in the local grievance process for each of the unionized facilities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Assist employees with questions regarding benefits, time and attendance, and HR policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and advancement of HR tools and processes (e.g., human capital management, time & attendance).
  • Responsible for creating, managing, and executing various projects to standardize and strengthen HR practices across the organization.
  • Provide HR leadership for multiple facilities across Canada.
  • Maintains an in-depth understanding of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Collaborates with the Legal department as needed/required.
  • Manage and resolve employee relations matters. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations.

Education and/or Experience:
  • SPHR or PHR designation preferred.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resources disciplines, including compensation, employee and union relations, diversity, and performance management preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or business.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of Human Resources and Labor Relations (CBA) experience.
