Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey’s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.


Our Team


Our Vale Newfoundland & Labrador (VNL) Human Resources Team supports our operations across St. John’s, Voisey’s Bay, and Long Harbour. Our operations in Newfoundland and Labrador are inclusive of our underground and surface mining operations in Voisey’s Bay and our processing plant in Long Harbour. Our HR Team is staffed by human resources and analytical professionals in each location.


The Opportunity


We are currently seeking a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our Human Resources (HR) Team.


This permanent position will be based at a home office, working a Monday through Friday schedule, with regular travel to the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site and/or Long Harbour Operations plant.


The Human Resources Business Partner is responsible to work directly with the business, brokering HR services between the business and HR process owner team and is responsible for the development and implementation of HR strategies and programs. The HRBP is a true business partner, in place to build relationships with the business becoming a business ally, a driver and facilitator of change – translating business needs into HR requirements Our workplace culture fosters teamwork and empowerment that makes Vale Operations a great place to work and will create a competitive advantage in the marketplace.


Additionally, in this position, you will:


  • Consult with the HR managers and HR process specialists in areas of complexity;
  • Identify areas where HR alignment or influence is required and enlist support from the HR Manager where necessary;
  • Be familiar with field concepts, practices and procedures and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals;
  • Provide advice, guidance and creative solutions to managers on all HR related matters, including policy interpretation, employee development, disciplinary and performance issues, etc. to ensure engagement and compliance;
  • Coach and influence leaders by proactively partnering on organizational issues;
  • Be a broker of HR services between the client area and HR process owner teams while leading in the roll out of HR programs to the business;
  • Lead or support business required projects.
  • Support the recruitment process for the client area;
  • Drive and lead the roll out of corporate wide initiatives within the client area. (For example, the career and succession process);
  • Deliver credible talent management and organizational design support required to meet immediate and future organizational client area needs. (For example, identify opportunities for individuals to engage in high value-added and challenging work assignments and/or influence the formulation of the recruitment business plan);
  • Build relationships with the client area while becoming a business ally, a driver and facilitator of change and translating business needs into HR requirements;
  • Drive and facilitate change and implement strategy, projects or initiatives within the client area;
  • Be the HR point of contact within the business, for a specific client group area for all HR related matters;
  • Share knowledge and experience with HR process owner teams and HRBP’s across Canada/UK;


About You


Education :


  • CHRP or Masters is considered an asset.
  • An undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business or Commerce.


Experience:


  • Experience in an operational or industrial environment considered an asset.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role.


Skills:


  • Ability to exercise appropriate levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Expert knowledge in various local legislations such as the Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Act and local employment codes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Proven time management and multi-tasking skills.
