About the Role

The Director of Marketing and Sales will be a key part of WCT’s senior leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO. It is an exciting time at WCT. We are currently in the middle of a strategic refresh and are developing a new roadmap for the coming years. This includes a complete overhaul of our online presence and current offerings to ensure they are relevant, engaging and meaningful to our sponsors and members.


We are seeking a Director of Marketing and Sales to lead a small but mighty GTM team composed of an Account Executive and a Content Marketer. You will be responsible for both developing and implementing the company's marketing and sales strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to join a startup-like environment, owning the function end-end. You will need to operate at both a strategic and an operational level, equally comfortable with fleshing out a plan as with rolling up your sleeves to implement it.


Here's how you'll make a difference:

  • You will make data-informed decisions: You will analyze and report the results of marketing campaigns and strategies, highlighting opportunities for iteration, optimization and improvement. You will develop and oversee the marketing budget and monitor costs vs actual and trends / budget.
  • You will lead the development and execution of a PR, thought leadership and partnerships strategy: You will develop an influencer program and seek out strategic partnerships, using our established and broad network of gender and diversity experts. You will secure and support speaking engagements, guest blog posts, op-eds and podcast appearances for our CEO and subject-matter experts.
  • You will develop and execute omni-channel strategies for driving growth: You will focus on organic acquisition, search, SEO, email marketing, content marketing, demand generation and lead generation. You will use data and analytics to measure marketing performance and adjust strategies accordingly
  • You will develop our marketing and sales collateral: You will work with an external agency to lead the redesign of our website. You will own the development and ongoing refinement of our pitch decks, email marketing campaigns, website copy, landing pages, product launches, and event launches.
  • You will lead our GTM team: You will guide our Content Marketer as they generate high-quality, engaging content for marketing campaigns, including blog posts, guides, resources, social media and reports. Additionally, you will oversee our Account Executive (salesperson) to ensure they hit their targets, working with them to manage their pipeline from top of funnel through close.
  • You will lead the development and execution of go-to-market strategy: You will own and lead all marketing and sales functions and initiatives across the organization, with a focus on growth marketing, but also including product marketing, event marketing, lead generation, content marketing, and creative/brand. You will align the marketing and sales direction with our three year strategic plan. You will execute both B2B and B2C motions.


What you bring to the team:

  • You have experience and familiarity with all GTM functions from SEO and backlinks, to cold outbound, creating converting landing pages, driving traffic from top of funnel to warm leads, understanding how a sales pipeline works and buyer personas and pain points.
  • You are a strong copywriter
  • You are proficient and comfortable with marketing analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console) Ahrefs, CRM systems (such as ActiveCampaign and Hubspot), and marketing automation platforms or integrations (e.g. Zapier) and no-code solutions
  • You have experience working with a CMS like Squarespace, Wordpress or Webflow
  • You have extensive experience in designing and executing multi-channel marketing campaigns
  • You have a proven track record of success in growth marketing, preferably in a B2B technology environment, with demonstrable results and achieving revenue targets


Bonus points if:

  • You’ve owned the GTM function in a startup environment before.
  • You speak and write fluent French.
  • You have knowledge of, or interest in DEI, intersectionality and gender equality.

The details

This is a full-time role starting in July or August 2023 (exact start date TBD). We would be open to considering part-time or job-sharing for the right candidate/s, with a minimum coverage requirement of 0.6FTE.


Base salary range starts at $90,000 FTE annually, commensurate with experience. We provide a health and benefits plan, L&D stipend and work-from-home stipend. The role is eligible for 15 days vacation and additional paid time off between December 25 and December 31.


WCT works virtually with occasional in-person team meetings or co-working days, depending on your location (Canada only). We commit to creating a work environment that brings the team together in real life, where possible, for celebration, collaboration and connection. Our team is currently located across Canada with team members in BC, Ontario and Quebec. This role will need to be considerate of core EST time zone hours with flexibility to be available as required.


The Interview Process

1. 30 minute video interview with our CEO.

2. Take home assignment (approximately 1 hour of time)

3. 60 minute video interview with our CEO and a member of either our board or senior leadership team
