Work location: Remote, with possibility of coworking in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal or Ottawa
Note: must be based in Canada and eligible to work (citizen or existing work permit)
Purpose of the Position
AI Governance and Safety Canada is a cross-partisan not-for-profit startup with a mission to make Canada a leader in reducing global AI risk. The Bilingual Director of Communications will design and deliver professional communications that will make AIGS a leading voice on AI governance and safety across Canada, and enable it to scale its impact.
Responsibilities and Duties
Reporting to the Executive Director, and working with the team, volunteers and contractors:
- Oversee website upgrades, content copy and translation
- Lead marketing, social media and member comms to engage and grow AIGS’ reach
- Build a team (volunteers & staff) capable of maintaining and scaling AIGS’ voice
- Support AIGS fundraising efforts through digital communications
- Develop AIGS’ brand, messaging and communications strategies
- Plan and manage media relations, and prepare AIGS leadership for interviews
Qualifications
- A track record of delivering successful communications campaigns
- Strong leadership: identifying needs, taking initiatives and seeing them through to completion, leading teams and bringing out the best in people
- A deep concern about AI developments and desire to make a difference in the world
- Full fluency in English & French, able to craft culturally sensitive messages to audiences in both Quebec and English Canada
- Tech-savviness: able to learn and work with a variety of tools
Salary & Commitment Expected
Salary is $60,000-$85,000 per year, benefits negotiable. The work schedule is flexible, with team meetings typically taking place on weekdays between 10am-6pm ET.
