Every day at Securian Canada means a day spent helping Canadians and their families build secure tomorrows. We’re agile and innovative, and we aren't afraid to challenge and create, or bring diverse perspectives to our work.
Who we need
Reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications, we are looking for a Bilingual Communications Specialist to join our growing team. Your initial priority will be to set a tone and cadence for streamlined peer communications as a result of our recent acquisition and merger, creating a single, consistent voice and amplifying our brand from a talent perspective. You will play a strategic role, acting as a project manager to take a communication plan from idea to execution, ensuring the format and messaging fits - and engages - the target internal or external audience.
With the majority of the team based in Toronto, we are open to a remote or hybrid work model.
What’s in it for you
Immediate and ongoing career development. You will help define the communications function on a newly formed team as three organizations come together as Securian Canada. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of exciting communication initiatives and be part of our overall focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. It’s a chance to work closely with a supportive and results-driven manager as she empowers you with the knowledge and direction you need to be successful. We are a growing organization quickly expanding our teams – meaning more opportunities to develop your career with time, in areas such as brand marketing, client marketing, and external communications.
What you will do:
- Collaborate. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure consistency and accuracy of messaging and brand adherence. You will partner with external agencies and vendors, including freelance writers, translators and designers, to produce high-quality communication materials.
- Create. You will write and edit content in French and English for various internal and external channels, such as internal memos/emails, social media, web pages, newsletters, presentations, town halls, intranet articles, announcements etc. You will prioritize inclusive messaging, both created and curated, across our communication channels.
- Develop communication plans. You will develop messaging with a consistent brand voice across all communication channels and ensure adherence to our Securian Canada brand guidelines. You will support with determining tactics, building messaging, and rolling out communication plans to internal and external audiences – on products, services, and internal programs encompassing DE&I, engagement, performance development, total rewards, etc.
- Think in French. You will go beyond translation to plan and create French content that respects the culture and style of our audience in Quebec. You will ensure that the percentage of content we generate in French meets the needs of our customers, clients, and partners.
- Monitor trends. You will stay up to date with industry trends, the competitive landscape, emerging technologies, and new and best practices in communications to continuously refine our communications strategies.
What you will bring:
- The interpersonal skills. You can nurture collaborative and trusting relationships at any level. You can confidently advise internal stakeholders on how to develop and roll out organizational messaging. You take a consultative approach to gathering information, asking probing questions, reflecting and organizing findings.
- The drive. You have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. You can manage multiple competing deliverables, follow up on results, track information, and complete tasks on time. You are willing to roll up your sleeves to pitch in where needed and manage priorities based on changing internal and external requirements without sacrificing quality.
- The technical knowledge. You have an in-depth understanding of communication principles and best practices. You are highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint.
- The communications expertise. You are a writer and content creator. You have worked in a range of business settings, including corporate communications or public relations, within a geographically dispersed or matrix environment. You have experience developing and implementing engaging communications for internal and external stakeholders, taking a concept from start to finish. You can adapt your approach and format to fit the audience and the message. Your strength lies in your ability to conceptualize, write exceptionally well, and edit in either language, with an understanding of the implications of French writing from a cultural perspective.
