THE ORGANIZATION

Martin Family Initiative is a registered charity that works together with First Nations, Inuit, and

Métis people to support education, health, and overall well-being for children, youth, and adults.


POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President, the Communications and Marketing Manager will play a critical

role in ensuring the organization achieves its plans for growth in alignment with its mission, vision

and values. The incumbent will strengthen and grow an engaged network of partners and donors,

develop brand-awareness for the organization, and utilize a range of digital and print media.


The position is permanent, full time.


The role:

• Work closely with MFI Vice President and CEO to develop and implement an organizationvwide

strategic communications plan.

• Oversee all existing MFI websites and print media.

• Work closely with MFI Program Directors to develop program specific communications

tools that meet their specific objectives and key audiences.

• Assist with the creation and execution of print media, social networking, and website

strategies for the organization. Communicate with key audiences and drive attendance,

enhance relationships, and position MFI positively.

• Identify, engage and work with external contractors on an as needed basis.

• Lead the development and execution of targeted marketing campaigns to enhance

awareness and drive brand awareness, funding, online traffic with key audiences.

• Work collaboratively with MFI Editorial and Production manager and Graphic Designer.

• Research, plan, develop, implement, coordinate, maintain and analyze current and

emerging digital communication activities designed to maximize awareness and drive

online/onsite attendance.

• Assist with training MFI team members to maximize the communications tools, including

use of online and social media, to support the development of a consistent voice,

language, presence and brand.

• Monitor emerging media trends, manage and evaluate brand activity and generate

reports/updates for management with recommendations for future enhancements.

• Analyze SEO analytics data and spearhead content recommendations that not only

appeal to our key audiences, but also meet SEO objectives.

• Monitor media and remain abreast of trends, new statistics, and reports that articulate

MFI’s vision and role.

• Manage the compilation, approval, and distribution of internal and external

communications (i.e.: annual reports, funder reports, newsletters, press releases).

• Utilize the MFI Editorial Style Guide in all written materials.

• Participate in weekly staff meetings and professional development opportunities.

• Ensure accurate and up to date file management.

• Responsible for the development and supervision of all marketing and communications

strategies for MFI.

• Evaluate the success of various communication strategies and provide and implement

recommendations for improvement.

• Ensure that all materials are developed and distributed according to an appropriate

timeline.

• Support internal engagement by helping MFI team members feel a deep sense of

connection to our mission, vision and values.


EXPECTATIONS OF THE ROLE

• Work with MFI leadership and individual MFI teams to support product development as

needed.

• Adapt to ongoing evolution of MFI communications strategy and priorities.

• Complete weekly time tracking.

• Work remotely and independently and be available from 9am to 5pm of the time zone in

which you are located.

• Adhere to all MFI travel and expense policy guidelines

• Influential, with exceptional collaboration, relationship and consultative skills.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills:

• Ability to clearly receive and transmit information.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Communications and Marketing or similar role.

• Knowledge around the Canadian education system, Indigenous peoples in Canada and

anti-colonial theory.

• Undergraduate degree in Communications, Marketing or a related field, or

commensurate combination of education and experience.

• Proven experience in managing and optimizing cross-channel marketing campaigns

including websites, SEO, and social media communities (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram,

YouTube, etc.)

• Solid knowledge of websites and analysis tools.

• Ability to effectively train and support staff.

• Highly effective project management, with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet

tight deadlines.

• Attention to detail and ability to adhere to MFI visual identity guidelines, voice and

content.

• Excellent computer skills with proficiencies in MS Office PC software applications (Excel,

Word, PowerPoint, etc).

• Experience with desktop publishing tools (Adobe Creative Suite), content management

systems (Kentico), and video editing software is considered an asset.

• Bilingualism is an asset.
